Sprint lets loose the LG LX370 and Samsung Exclaim

Sprint launched two new phones over the weekend: the LG LX370 and the Samsung Exclaim.

The LG LX370 is a slider phone with Sprint's One Click interface, a 2.0-megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth, GPS with Sprint Navigation, a music player, a microSD card slot that can hold up to 16GB, and more. The LG LX370 is $99.99 with a two-year contract.

The Samsung Exclaim has many of the same features, but it has a dual-slider shape with both a number keypad and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. It is similar in style to the Helio Ocean 2.

Samsung does plasma well, too

With the exit of heavy-hitter Pioneer from the plasma racket, just three major makers remain: Panasonic, Samsung, and LG. The latter two offer significantly more models of LCD TVs than of plasma, however, and seem more focused on LCD technology. Nonetheless, Samsung's 2009 plasmas, if the PNB650 series is any indication, are nearly the match of Panasonic's best.

Samsung Blue Earth hands-on video

Samsung first announced its eco-friendly Blue Earth phone at the Barcelona-based Mobile World Congress in February. It's been awhile since the announcement, but we finally got to spend a little personal time with the solar-powered handset here at CommunicAsia 2009 in Singapore.

Samsung Mantra lands at Virgin Mobile

The Samsung Mantra is just about what you'd expect from a Virgin Mobile phone. The compact flip handset sports a minimalist design with clean lines and a black and gray color scheme. Features include a VGA camera, Bluetooth, a speakerphone, voice dialing, text messaging, a wireless Web browser, a personal organizer, and support for gaming.

The Mantra is available now for $59.99 with free activation and shipping.

Samsung announces Jet smartphone with 800MHz processor

At an event in Manhattan Monday, Samsung unveiled its new Jet smartphone, which features a fast 800MHz processor and Samsung's proprietary OS that includes its Dolphin Web browser. Alas, the Jet won't be flying into the U.S. anytime soon, though its designation as a UTMS phone leaves AT&T as its most probable destination if it does hit these shores. All that said, it is available for the rest of the world later this year.

Unlike the Omnia 2, which was also announced at the event, Samsung did have the Jet on hand for reporters to play with. Several remarked that the touch screen seemed quite responsive despite being resisitive. But there was some disappointment that the phone didn't seem even zippier with that 800MHz processor (until now, smartphone processors have tended to top out at 600MHz). However, Samsung reps said the software wasn't final and was still being tweaked. (It was also impossible to test the Dolphin browser because there was no network connection).

All in all, the look and feel of the Jet was appealing. It's smaller than the iPhone and is more on par with the size of the Palm Pre. However, we're just not sure how appealing a proprietary OS is at this point when you have an open OS like Android sitting out there.

Samsung Omnia 2 coming to Verizon

Verizon may not have the iPhone 3G S, but the sequel to Samsung's popular iPhone pretender, the Omnia, will be coming to Verizon later this year, Samsung announced at an event on Monday in Manhattan. As for the exact timing of the Omnia 2's launch, that's still up in the air, as Samsung reps said that Verizon had a tight leash on what info could--and couldn't--release at this time.
