Mouse clicks from 30 feet away

In our never-ending pursuit of extreme laziness, we have been remiss in the mouse department. But today we spotted a model on Fareastgizmos that could provide some much-needed help. This mouse may not allow you to nap, but it will at least let you do some couch surfing, which is never a bad thing.

Buffalo's 2.4 GHz wireless mouse can work more than 30 feet away from your computer, which would make it useful for work too (gasp) in presentations and the like. It doesn't come cheap--about $175--but we think that's reasonable for a valuable addition … Read more

A mouse that's not ashamed of its size

As our waistline has steadily expanded over the years, we at Crave have become keenly aware that one size definitely does not fit all. So even though our hand dimensions have remained relatively fat-free, we still endorse the concept behind this mix-and-match mouse from Japan's Kokuyo. Akihabara News says the bezels for this optical device come in three sizes, which are marked by numerical measurements rather than the usual S-M-L (perhaps to spare the feelings of those of us with plus-sized fingers). And remember, if those pudgy paws get chilled in the winter months, you can always get these … Read more

'Media crusher' keeps secrets safe

We have no problem with shredding pulp documents, but it's always felt wrong to break CDs and DVDs. For one thing, we've never been sure how to do it exactly. Do you use tools? If so, what kind? Breaking discs with your bare hands seems like an unnecessary risk of personal injury.

So it makes perfect sense that something like Elcom's "media crusher" would come along. Fareastgizmos reports that the crusher, which is powered by a USB connection, "takes only 5 seconds to permanently destroy" CDs and DVDs.

The device doesn't literally … Read more

USB gloves for that homeless look

Whether at home or at the office, you can never satisfy everyone with the temperature. We've seen people almost come to blows over the thermostat, setting and resetting the controls whenever others weren't around.

To keep the peace--and your personal comfort--you can always get a pair of these USB Warmer Gloves. Japanese retailer RareMono Shop says they're safe because the gloves warm slowly with the USB power. Added benefit: You can get that homeless chic look without burning your hands over a garbage-can fire.

A USB stocking stuffer for just $19,000

Even if the "Mottainai" bronze USB drive were real gold, it would still pale in comparison to the "Snow" drive. This 4GB storage device has a case made of 18k white gold and trimmed with 96 diamonds totaling 1.44 carats, according to Ubergizmo, and at current market prices that adds up to nearly $19,000. But according to Mii Stor--which offers "a unique range of USB jewelry accessories" (ya think?)--a platinum "Ice" model is on the way with 350 diamonds totaling 5.8 carats. So start saving now.

Listen to music with a wave of the hand

Having more than just a few gray hairs, we're still more comfortable with knobs and dials on our toys.

But if you're into all this new-fangled wireless stuff these days, you might want to check out the "Motion Speaker" from Question Mark Entertainment (even if it does look like an alien). You can work the controls with a wave of the hand that signals sensors to adjust the volume or change radio channel, according to Electronista. It also has a built-in ambient lighting system to set the mood that's appropriate for your music. Alcoholic beverages … Read more

Siamese LCDs are joined at the stand

No, you're not seeing double. And no, it's not an image-loading bug. (Though that's always possible, until we work out the kinks in Crave's publishing system.)

These are really dual LCD monitors, joined at the hip by a shared pedestal. Soyo's GoVideo Dual LCD line comes in your choice of 17- or 19-inch screens respectively priced at $1,000 and $1,200, including built-in speakers, according to Electronista. They can also pivot 180 degrees away from each other (see bottom photo), allowing a face-to-face work style that reminds us of old-fashioned partners desks.

Why two … Read more

We take you behind the scenes at CES

Yes, it's almost that time of year again: No, not the holidays--we're talking CES. The biggest consumer electronics confab of the year is only two months away, and we're giving you an early look at what to expect in Las Vegas. Among the sneak peeks are a super-thin wearable virtual display, a new podcast microphone, speakers that disguise themselves as antiques and 3 Doors Down on the future of music.

Copier-DVD-latte combo needs a bong

It's not often that the sight of a product photo forces us to turn away. But it was necessary to avoid getting flashbacks to our "Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test" days.

The last thing you'd expect to trigger psychedelic memories would be a piece of office equipment, but this is no ordinary machine. And we're not just talking about the crazy magenta daisy motif, either. Konica Minolta is working on a prototype that combines the usual functions (copying, printing, scanning, faxing) with a slew of other features, including a DVD player, LCD screen, speakers and even … Read more

B&O does Bluetooth

Bang&Olufsen has something to go with your $1,275 B&O phone.

The company is planning to release its first Bluetooth headset called the EarSet 2. It offers two microphones, four hours of talk per charge and days of standby.

While B&O has not officially released the price, Ubergizmo estimates that the EarSet 2 will sell for about $250.
