Using the filters in iOS 7's Camera app is a fun way to spruce a photo. For whatever reason, iOS 7 doesn't deselect a filter after you exit the Camera app, leading you to inadvertently filter some photos.
For example, if you take a pic using any of the available filters, exit the app, and then awhile later quickly launch the camera to catch an impromptu photo, the filter is still selected and thus applied to your photo.
Luckily, there's a quick and easy way built into iOS 7 that allows you to change or remove filters … Read more
For every iPhone 5C activation in the US, there are 1.9 iPhone 5S activations, according to mobile analytics firm Localytics. Globally, the gap widens to 2.3 iPhone 5S devices per iPhone 5C. Still, the difference is much better than a couple weeks ago when Localytics found that the iPhone 5S outpaced the iPhone 5C by a factor of 3.4.
The smaller gap in the US indicates … Read more
Boost, a unit of Sprint, said Monday that Apple's latest smartphones will be available on November 8. It's both the latest and one of the last carriers to offer the two phones.
Apple typically pushes its new iPhones to the large big-box retailers and national wireless carriers before expanding the distribution to partners focused on prepayment customers. Virgin Mobile, Sprint's other prepaid business, got the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C last month. A smaller number of users purchase the iPhone prepaid because … Read more
Following multiple reports in recent days claiming Apple's trimming iPhone 5C production, comes another.
Citing supply chain checks, NPD DisplaySearch on Friday said that Apple has trimmed iPhone 5C production by 35 percent, while boosting production of the pricier iPhone 5S by 75 percent to catch up with demand.
To recap, the iPhone 5C is basically last year's iPhone 5, but with a colorful plastic back and slightly different cellular antennas. The iPhone 5S is the company's new top-of-the-line iPhone, with a 64-bit processor, new camera, and dual-LED flash, along with a Touch ID fingerprint sensor on … Read more
The carrier's iPhone 5S and 5C mini Web site directly grafts Apple's posted details, which suggests for now anyhow that U.S. Cellular will sell all colors and capacities at Apple's pricing.
Even if this changes as we get closer to November 8, we should expect to see the 16GB models at the very least. That's $200 on-contract for the 5S, and $100 on-contract for the 5C.
Updated at 3:23pm PT with more details.
The iPhone 5C comes with a range of brightly colored cases that have holes punched in the back for a vivid effect. One developer team seems to have looked at those holes, though, and thought outside the "blue and green should never be seen" box.
Australians David McKinney and Stuart Hall -- the team behind the Discovr apps -- have made Flipcase: a game that uses the holes in the iPhone 5C's case as the "frame" with which to play Connect Four. … Read more
Apple's iPhone 5S is significantly outpacing the iPhone 5C in sales, and at least one analyst believes that trend will continue into the holiday season.
The iPhone 5S is outselling the iPhone 5C at a ratio of 2.5-to-1, Canaccord Genuity analyst Michael Walkley wrote in a note to investors on Wednesday. That news is obviously good for Apple, which generates more revenue on the iPhone 5S than iPhone 5C, but it also cements Walkley's belief that Apple will sell 52.5 million iPhones during the last quarter of the year.
The first quarter of 2014 should also … Read more
The iPhone 5S has proven to be a hot commodity. The iPhone 5C? Not so much, at least according to a new report.
Apple has told two of its iPhone suppliers that it plans to cut orders for the 5C this quarter, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.
Citing information from "people familiar with the situation," the Journal reported that supplier Pegatron was told that 5C orders would be trimmed by less than 20 percent. Hon Hai, aka Foxconn, was informed that orders would be reduced by a third. Pegatron assembles around two-thirds of 5C units, according to … Read more
When Apple announced its colorful line of iPhone 5C devices, it also announced a line of matching cases, full of holes on the backside to let the device's color shine through.
For some, the color combinations provided by the phone and the case with the holes in the back will be enough. Others will find the lack of deeper personalization leaves them wanting more.
With a new free app in the App Store, you can now fully customize the holes in your iPhone 5C case, personalizing the device through and through.
