Report: Best Buy's iPhone supply running low

First-generation iPhone 3Gs are becoming a lot more scarce at retail.

Best Buy is anticipating its iPhone inventory running very low over the next few weeks, according to AppleInsider. A memo from Best Buy corporate to its sales employees says the stream of iPhone 3G inventory to its stores will slow to a trickle. Some stores may run completely out of the devices.

Reports surfaced last week of an Australian distributor that supplies iPhone 3Gs to carriers saying there was "only a few weeks stock available."

This is a similar pattern to what unfolded last year, when first-generation … Read more

Hollywood takes a FreeWheel-ing approach to ads

Hollywood is starting to take note of a Silicon Valley start-up that claims to possess the answer to its Web-advertising woes: the trick, according to the company, is to take an opposite approach to DRM.

Managers at FreeWheel say one of the reasons TV networks and film studios are reluctant to syndicate their content widely on the Web is piracy. The other main reason is that it's hard to track, control, and manage their own ads when they're dispersed across dozens of sites.

FreeWheel says it has the answer, and some in the entertainment sector agree. About 15 … Read more

Is it just me, or does it seem like technology is taking over as master of the house?

Technological advances like the ones you see on this blog are making cooking, eating, and entertaining easier and more convenient, but in the case of some inventions, like the KitchenAttendant, we're no longer faced with the responsibility of thinking about what we should eat.

Remember the Intelliscanner Kitchen Companion remote, a handheld scanner that keeps track of your pantry and helps you print out grocery lists? Meet a device that puts the runt remote to shame. The KitchenAttendant is a countertop … Read more

iTrackr shops for you, but is it enough?

We certainly could have used a service like this before experiencing a personal dose of "Black Friday" hell this year. Rather than flip through page after page of newspaper inserts and retailer Web sites, and then gamble on whether the items are really in stock as promised, we would have much preferred the kind of one-stop shopping that iTrackr claims to provide.

The Florida-based company says it monitors the inventory of 8,578 Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA, EB Games, Sears and Target stores across the country. Based on your zip code--and a $1.99 fee--iTrack promises to … Read more
