First all-digital library in the U.S. will look like an Apple Store

The first book-free library in the U.S. may look pretty familiar to visitors. That's because it's being modeled after an Apple retail store.

Bexar County, Texas, which includes San Antonio, will launch the nation's first all-digital public library system, dubbed BiblioTech, this year. A prototype location on the county's south side is slated to open this fall, and the county hopes to open similar libraries in the future.

Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff got his inspiration for the all-digital library from Walter Isaacson's biography of Steve Jobs, according to the San Antonio Express-News.

Beats' Iovine: I talked to Steve Jobs about music subscriptions

Jimmy Iovine, a bigwig at Universal Music Group and co-founder of Beats Electronics, says he tried to sell Steve Jobs on a music-subscription service years ago but couldn't quite make it happen.

Speaking to All Things Digital in an interview posted yesterday, Iovine said he approached the late Apple co-founder in "2002, 2003" to pitch him on the idea of launching a music-subscription service. Steve Jobs biopic 'jOBS' to arrive in theaters in April

The first film about Apple co-founder Steve Jobs since his death in 2011 will be released in theaters in April, the movie's creators said today.

Open Road Films and Five Star Feature Films today said the two companies reached a distribution deal for "jOBS."

Book gives look at early Apple designs

Apple fanatics may find themselves foaming at the mouth over some retro conceptual Mac computer photos featured in Hartmut Esslinger's book Design Forward: Creative Strategies for Sustainable Change.

The opus, released today in limited quantities, explores Esslinger's journey as a German designer who worked with the likes of Sony, Louis Vuitton, and others before moving on to Apple in 1982. Acer: Touch-screen laptops will be everywhere soon

Acer president Jim Wong said touch-screen laptops will eventually dominate the PC market, although he also warned that Windows 8 may take a while to win over computer users.

Touch-screen laptops -- now just trickling into the market -- will eventually become the dominant laptop design, Wong said in an interview with Taipei-based Digitimes. For instance, he noted internal Acer research showing that after using a product with a touch-screen for more than 20 minutes, users naturally gravitate to touch.

"This indicates that touchscreen control is an irreversible trend," he said.

Steve Jobs' yacht, a floating goddess of a dinghy dubbed the Venus, was freed from impound in the Netherlands in time for Christmas. It's a typical feel-good holiday story, except that it involves a dispute over an extravagant boat and millions of dollars between the estate of an American icon and a renowned French designer.

This just happens too often.

You spend years waiting for your yacht to finally, finally be made to your specifications, and then some ridiculous member of officialdom -- usually badly dressed and with a mustache -- prevents you from taking possession.

This appears to be the case with the yacht that was the late Steve Jobs' brainadult.
