London store loses its entire iPhone 5 shipment to theft

Police want to question an O2 shop assistant over the theft of iPhone 5 handsets from one of the operator's stores in London.

Around 250 handsets, worth about £100,000, were stolen from the O2 Store in the Tandem Centre in Colliers Wood near Wimbledon at 1.30am this morning. The stolen devices included the store's entire stock of iPhone 5 smartphones that were due to go on sale at 9am the same day.

The arrival of the iPhone 5 on Friday generated huge queues outside Apple Stores in London and across the world. However, the number of buyers at shops run by networks such as ThreeRead more

Thief drives straight through Apple Store window

Perhaps he thought the iPhone 5 would already be there.

Who can imagine why someone would risk the sensitive fenders of his BMW to drive straight through the front window of the Apple Store in Temecula, Calif.?

And yet here is footage of a smash, a grab, and a slight thoughtlessness, given that the robbers seemed not to have factored in the security cameras.

Footage that was release to YouTube shows action that seems as incontrovertible as it is rather tragic.

I am grateful to the BBC for grabbing this footage and smashing it into my eyes.

Grand Theft Auto goes 'Back to the Future' with DeLorean mod

A fan had a dream. He dreamed he would some day roll around Vice City in a souped-up DeLorean, dressed as Marty Mcfly, packing heat, and terrorizing the town. Then he made it happen.

The creator of the Back to the Future Grand Theft Auto mod (SeedyROM34 on YouTube), spent months working on the elaborate creation with many hours of file editing thrown into the bargain. This is quite a bit more than just a skin. There's time travel, an excellent-looking Marty McFly character, and a detailed DeLorean complete with flux capacitor.… Read more

Zappos, LinkedIn, eHarmony, Yahoo, LastFm, the Environmental Protection Agency, Stanford, and Columbia University -- all suffered online data breaches recently, says the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse.

Theft of 44K credit cards is tip of the iceberg, police say

In an international hacking case, a Dutch man appeared in U.S. federal court today and pled not guilty to stealing at least 44,000 credit card numbers, according to the Associated Press.

Apparently, this is just the tip of the iceberg.

David Benjamin Schrooten, aka "Fortezza," is being targeted by federal prosecutors for allegedly hacking into computers and stealing massive amounts of credit card numbers. Once he obtained the numbers, he allegedly sold them in bulk quantities via different Web sites. The 44,000 is reportedly from just one sale.

Police caught onto Schrooten's alleged heist … Read more

Computer store accused of (legally) stealing Olympic star's sex photos

I had always imagined that theft is a fairly simple thing.

You own something, someone who doesn't own it takes it, and that is illegal.

Yet this may not be the case in Australia. For one of the nation's most celebrated Olympic stars claims that a computer store availed itself of highly personal images of him and his wife from his computer -- something that may not be illegal.

You will be stunned into an Olympic stupor to discover that the nation's Sunday Telegraph now claims to have seen these images, which reportedly involve the sportsman, his … Read more

11-year-old pilfers $3,000 to finance gaming, report says

If there's one thing that the last few years have taught us, it's that one can never have enough money.

There are so many things in this world to do and enjoy that an infinity of currency is barely enough to finance human pleasure.

Who, therefore, can be surprised that one 11-year-old in China reportedly decided that he couldn't truly enjoy his online gaming without warm, soft cash?

It's not always easy for 11-year-old boys to get cash. In this case, as Kotaku reports, the boy, who lives in Xianning City, discovered that one of his … Read more
