Transparent truck system could save lives

Russian design studio Art Lebedev calls this simple invention--a camera that takes images from the front of a truck to show it on screens in the back--Transparentius. I call it geeneeuzz.

I don't know why the drawing below shows a tank at the front of the truck, but I guess that in Russia people drive T-90s like people drive Fords in the U.S. I wish the technology was so cheap that this could be implemented for real, because I'm sure being able to see what's in the blind zone before switching lanes would save a … Read more

Cadillac Escalade transformed into Monster Truck!

The hot topic that's being discussed all over the 'Net and at water coolers all over the world is how Tiger Woods ended up crashing his 2009 Cadillac Escalade into a now-famous tree in Florida after what is being rumored as a fight with his wife over reports that he'd been steppin' out with another woman. I'll leave all the gossip and speculation on the why's and how's of that situation to TMZ or the National Enquirer. But I'm the type of person who tries to find light and humor in all situations, so … Read more

Highlights from 2009 SEMA Show

This last week saw yet another big auto show in the form of the 2009 SEMA Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The show ran from November 2 to Friday November 6, and boy, was there a ton of eye candy for us car enthusiasts. However, the SEMA Show was not open to the public--only auto industry insiders were allowed inside these doors full of what SEMA refers to as "automotive specialty products." This video is a teaser of some of the many automotive delights that were on display at this year's event.

IBM sees overhaul coming for trucking industry

Fuel efficiency is the No. 1 factor in equipment purchases within the trucking industry, a new report from IBM says.

At the same time, brand name has fallen to the bottom of the criteria list and "faces the risk of slow death," according to the report.

The combination of those two factors means that new players in the trucking industry will give established brands a run for their money.

"The truck ecosystem will thrive because of--rather than in spite of--a chaotic introduction of new players," the report said.

Digital coloring book

Coloring Book 11: Trucks and Things that Go is a digital coloring book with easy controls; children will be making colorful images in no time.

We found the program's interface to be well-suited for young computer users. The color palette and tools to choose a new image were big and obvious. We cycled through five well-drawn outlines of boats and trains and trucks, but couldn't access the bulk of the program's reported 50 pages because of its trial limits. The ones we saw were easy to fill in, using a generous selection of colors that circle the … Read more

Hot Sun, Hot Cars and Hot Chicks: 2009 SCORE Terrible's Primm 300

At the tail end of this last week, I used my blog to preview the SCORE International off road trophy truck race Terrible's Primm 300 that took place over this last weekend in Nevada. Well, the 14th edition of this race has been run, and the results are in - of over 100 trucks to start the race, roughly 60% completed the grueling off road terrain with Robby Gordon coming in at 1st Place.

Y'know dear readers, I must admit it's sometimes difficult to find quality web video within a short turnaround time in order to present … Read more

SCORE Terrible's Primm 300: A Preview

During the summer I dedicated my blog to the infamous Baja 1000 race inspired by an episode of "Jesse James is a Dead Man" that aired around that time on Spike TV. The Baja off road races are sponsored by a race organization known as SCORE International, a promotion that sponsors several annual off road race competitions for trophy trucks, and one of their signature events begins today and lasts through the end of this weekend in Las Vegas. This event is called the Terrible's Primm 300.

The SCORE Terrible's Primm 300 is an off road … Read more

Gettin Air Time at 2009 Baja 500

Today get ready for flying trucks as we got some great close-up video of two trophy trucks jumping a hill on RM 312 from the 2009 Baja 500 off road race.

Seeing video like this is what makes the Baja races so fun to see. Thrill seeking spectators love to position themselves all over the place throughout this off road race so they can really hear the roar of the engines and feel the dirt fly off the trucks' wheels as they go by. The first vehicle has been identified as Baja racing vet Robby Gordon who led the race … Read more

Rolling to a Crash at Baja 500

In case you've missed out, this week we are dedicating this video blog to the notoriously dangerous off road race known as the Baja 500. But it's a much different scenario to be watching a vehicle take a tumble than it is to be actually IN the vehicle as it skids, crashes or turns over. Here we get a first hand look from inside a trophy truck racing in the 2008 Baja 500 as it somehow goes from booking through the desert to all of a sudden turning over and rolling to a crashing halt. If you aren'… Read more
