If you like to flaunt your home audio system, you're probably not going to buy the Boston SoundWare XS 5.1 speaker system. That's OK; it's not made for you. But lots of people who don't make home theater their hobby still appreciate a true surround-sound experience, and Boston's system delivers that at an incredible size and price. The SoundWare XS 5.1 sounds surprisingly good, and we say surprising because its five satellite speakers feel only a little larger than a baseball in your hand. Combined with its compact 100-watt subwoofer, it's one … Read more
The 4G-capable Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is now available for preorder.
Customers interested in buying the device can head to Verizon's Web site and preorder the 16GB or 32GB models for $529.99 and $629.99, respectively. To buy the device at those prices, however, consumers must enter into a two-year contract with Verizon.
Samsung's Android Honeycomb-based Galaxy Tab features a 10.1-inch display and a dual-core 1GHz processor. The device includes both a front- and rear-facing camera so users can snap photos and have video chats. Samsung currently offers a Wi-Fi-only version of the tablet for $499.99 and $599.99 for the 16GB and 32GB models, respectively.
Verizon's preorder offer is a little late. Earlier this month, Verizon announced that it would start offering preorders on the 4G-capable Galaxy Tab 10.1 on June 8.
According to Verizon, the 4G Galaxy Tab 10.1 will start shipping in four to six weeks.… Read more
Ericsson yesterday demoed a new version of LTE technology that's 10 times faster than today's current standard and delivers speeds of nearly 1 gigabit per second.
Conducted in the company's home base of Sweden, the demonstration of LTE Advanced was presented to the Swedish Post and Telecom Agency (PTS). Using existing commercial hardware, Ericsson was able to use a test frequency provided by the PTS to show off certain features of LTE Advanced for the first time.

There are all sorts of options for keeping your portable information organized. Some are online, some are integrated into e-mail accounts, and some live on our phones. Some are full suites of tools and others are standalone programs. SSuite Office's CleverNote PIM Portable is a surprisingly feature-filled program that's small enough to fit on a USB drive and keep your schedule, contacts, and other information at your fingertips. Unfortunately, some of its features work better in theory than in practice.
The program's interface is attractive and easy to navigate, with tabs representing its major features. It provides … Read more
All too often we encounter music players that are either lacking basic features or crammed with features that aren't particularly useful. MusicBee is one of those rare programs that covers all the basics and includes some pretty cool extras. If you're in the market for a new way to manage your music collection, you should take a look at it.
The program's interface is plain and intuitive, with a list of tracks dominating the center of the screen and a list of directories down the left side, just like many other music players. If you have songs … Read more
Fish are a popular theme for screensavers; the computer screen lends itself well to aquarium-like graphics, and screensaver developers have taken full advantage of that fact. We like this trend, too; these screensavers bring some of the beauty and relaxation of aquariums to your desk without the hassle of cleaning tanks and adjusting pH levels. Free Desktop Fish Screensaver is one of many such programs, and it didn't do much to impress us. It's not awful, but there are many similar programs out there that we like better.
The program installs easily and appeared in our Display Properties … Read more
Spring is our favorite season and we happen to love butterflies, so we were excited about trying Free 3D Butterfly Screensaver. Unfortunately, the program did not live up to our expectations. Functional problems and poor graphics plague this disappointing program.
Our first beef with Free 3D Butterfly Screensaver was that it didn't automatically install itself in the proper directory for screensavers as most similar programs do. We had to move the file to its proper place in order to get it to show up among the options in our Display Properties menu. We were also able to access it … Read more
We've reviewed a lot of screensavers, but this might be the first one that we've encountered that kind of grossed us out. Fly on Desktop Screensaver does exactly what the name implies, adding crawling flies to your desktop in a surprisingly realistic way. It would make an excellent practical joke on an unsuspecting friend's computer, or just use it on your own computer to periodically creep out your co-workers throughout the day.
The screensaver appeared in our Display Properties menu along with the rest of our screensavers, and all we had to do was select how many … Read more
There are a lot of fish-related screensavers out there, and we tend to like them; they're generally calming and nice to look at. So we were rather taken aback when we launched Aquarium Fantasia Screensaver, which may be the ugliest screensaver we've ever encountered. It's impressive, but for all the wrong reasons.
Frankly, Aquarium Fantasia Screensaver looks like the final project of someone taking--and failing--an introductory interactive design course. Where do we even begin? What we suppose is meant to be sand in the bottom of the aquarium looks more like beige Berber carpet. The "stones&… Read more
