Quick Note: Check Flash version after installing Mac OS X 10.6.4

Apparently Apple included an older version of Adobe's Flash Player plugin with the latest Mac OS X 10.6.4 update. The version Apple supplies is 10.0.45.2, whereas the latest version from Adobe is 10.1.53.64. While most people will not experience much difference in terms of performance, there could be some stability or compatibility differences that a few people may notice. More importantly, the version included with OS 10.6.4 is one that is subject to some recently uncovered (and subsequently patched) security vulnerabilities.… Read more

Apple: MobileMe Web site down tonight

Apple announced that the MobileMe Web site, me.com, will be down for scheduled maintenance on Thursday, June 17, from 10 p.m. until midnight Pacific Time. The outage will affect all MobileMe Web applications at me.com,  but it is not expected to affect any other MobileMe services on desktops, notebooks, iPads, iPhones, or iPods.… Read more

iTunes 9.2 available for download

iTunes 9.2 is available for download, ahead of the release of the new iPhone so features specific to that device will be functional when it arrives. Beyond this, the update addresses problems with album artwork displaying slowly, and includes a few new features such as syncing PDF documents as books, and organizing iOS4 apps into folders. Since iTunes 9.2 will be required for use with the new iPhone, if you are planning on upgrading your phone you might consider getting the software installed and ensure everything works on that end before upgrading your hardware.… Read more

Flash 10.1 updated, no GPU acceleration support yet

Yesterday Adobe has released a new version of Flash for OS X, which is available for download from the Adobe flash player website and addresses recently uncovered security vulnerabilities. These days peoples' experience with the plugin at times seems to be hit-or-miss, but the update may help people who are having problems with current versions of flash (ie, not being able to view AppleByte videos in some situations). At the very least it should fix a few bugs and security or stability issues with the last version.… Read more

Apple releases Safari 5.0, and Safari 4.1 for Tiger

Apple has released the next full version of Safari. Adobe warns of critical Flash-based security hole

Last Friday Adobe released a security bulletin that outlines a vulnerability in their Flash player software for Web browsers, where the plugin could be caused to crash and result in the affected computer being taken control of by an attacker. Adobe's Photoshop Creative Suite 4 image-editing software has critical vulnerabilities that could let  hackers take control of Macs with the suite installed.
