Wednesday Night Drags at Infineon Raceway

Infineon Raceway (formerly known as Sears Point) is famous outside of California for hosting racing events for national heavyweights such as NASCAR and Indy Car. But California car and racing enthusiasts know that Infineon holds a semi-weekly event called "Wednesday Night Drags".

Nearly every Wednesday throughout the year, car owners can bring their own cars or trucks and race em drag style on the historic Infineon asphalt. And when I say owners can race in their own vehicles, I mean it - depending on the night, you can see vintage muscle cars squaring off against newer pickup trucks, … Read more

Audi Sportscar Experience at Infineon Raceway

Infineon Raceway in beautiful Sonoma, California is a great place take in some rays and watch fast cars speed around its landscape. Within the last week or so, Infineon has played host to Indy Car, drifting and go-kart racing. This coming week, the varied trend continues as the Sonoma track brings back the popular Audi Sportscar Experience this week for another round of fun for amateur driving in the newest Audi cars.

This clip comes from a recent Audi Sportscar Experience extravaganza at Infineon Raceway in June 2009. What's neat about this video is that you get the view … Read more

Formula Drift Championship in Sonoma

Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California is usually busy around this time of year, and this last weekend was no exception. While much of the attention was on the Indy Car Grand Prix race held on Sunday with commercials pimping such Indy Car stars as Danica Patrick (duh) and Helio Castroneves, the Formula Drift company had an event of its own at Infineon the night before featuring Round 6 of the Locked and Loaded series.

Formula D's "Locked and Loaded" was held on Saturday August 22 at Infineon Raceway, and based on the video here it looked like … Read more

Dario Franchitti wins at Indy Grand Prix Sonoma

In case ya didn't know, I report to the Cnet offices here in beautiful San Francisco, California. Being a current resident here in Northern Cali, I have seen many commercials for the Indy Car competition at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California. Given its proximity to this author and the hype surrounding one of the bigger races on the Indy Car calendar, I decided to give today's video blog to covering yesterday's 2009 edition of the Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma.

As some of you may know, Indy Car is very stingy about letting video out to the … Read more

Road to Pandora now goes through Amazon

Pandora is a great music-discovery service, so it's only natural that independent bands would hope to get their music placed on it. Unfortunately for them, Pandora just made that a little harder--and a little more expensive.

As I first saw on the Digital Audio Insider blog a couple weeks ago, Pandora recently changed its music submission process, and is now accepting solicitations only from bands who have a physical CD for sale through Amazon.com. That requires the artist to manufacture a CD with proper album art and bar code, which is much more expensive than creating a bunch … Read more

Milka Duno: 1st TV Race

Danica Patrick and Sarah Fisher aren't the only female drivers attracting attention to the IndyCar circuit. There just happens to be another beautiful lady rockin' the car racing world, and her name is Milka Duno.

Milka Duno's rise to prominence in the racing world (besides being a woman) was far from typical. Duno was born in Caracas and her past endeavors have included modeling and Master's Degrees in Naval Architecture and Marine Biology. Around the mid-1990s Milka turned her attention to car racing, and she hasn't looked back since. She moved to the United States in … Read more

This Week: A Salute to Women Drivers and Racing

You know, it seems that there's still a widely held notion that cars and racing are a purely man's domain even in these "enlightened" times. But nothing could be further from the truth in my opinion. Women have made great strides in not only the racing world, but have also taken on other car-related areas such as mechanics and customs that are usually dominated by us dudes, and I think that's a cause to celebrate. So ladies and gentlemen, start your engines for this week's video blog tribute to women drivers and women in … Read more

Danica's Big Win

While Sarah Fisher was out and about spreading the word last week about the 93rd Indianapolis 500, another Indy woman has also been attracting a lot of attention--Danica Patrick. While Danica is driving tons of Internet traffic from swimsuit shoots and steamy TV commercials, she has also become a savvy self-marketer and top contender in Indy racing. In fact, at this last weekend's Indianapolis 500, Danica finished third, her best showing at the Indy 500 to date.

If she hadn't before, Danica put the racing world on notice and made history when she won her first Indy race … Read more

Indie brick-and-mortar record store sells MP3s

Other Music isn't the sort of place you'd go to pick up the new U2 record; its primary mission is to turn its customers onto, well, other music. Now, some of Other Music's titles are available as MP3 downloads.

The physical and download Other Music stores are an attempt to classify the unclassifiable; there's "In" (indie rock); "Out" (experimental, free jazz, noise, 20th century composers, and early electronic pioneers); "Electronica" (new electronic music including ambient, electro, and underground hip-hop); "Then" (influential artists from the '60s, '70s, and '80s); … Read more

NYC record stores, still kicking!

I don't care how many people get their music online, it'll never replace the joys of perusing CDs and LPs in brick-and-mortar record stores.

My Morning Jacket's Jim James apparently agrees with me. He said recently, "I think the thing that people forget about is the community and the memories that are created when you come to an independent and locally owned record store that you can only get in that town."

That's right. There are other humans there, looking at and buying music. The store, if it's any good, plays great stuff … Read more
