Get a 55-inch 3D HDTV with glasses for $899 shipped

3D TVs were supposed to be the Next Big Thing, but they never really caught on with consumers, no doubt due to high prices and the dearth of 3D content.

And yet, I think if you can get a 3D-capable model for around the same price as a non-3D one, why not? That was my thinking when I bought my last TV, and although I don't don the glasses very often, sometimes it's really nice.

For example, our local Family Video has a pretty decent 3D movie selection, so when my family went to rent "Life of … Read more

Google TV Remote app for Android gains voice search

The official Google TV Remote app for Android has received its first software update in years, adding in a number of new features.

Perhaps most notable in the change log is the addition of voice search support, which provides a more robust user experience.

With the update, users can now search for movies, television shows, and other content across the platform.

Previously, hardware limitations prevented users from being able to use voice as an input method.

The latest version of the Google TV Remote includes a new D-Pad navigation as well, which allows you to navigate more naturally.

Family Guy's Stewie makes Google Chrome lovable

If you want your browser to become astoundingly popular, one idea might be to employ the services of a 1-year-old who once rather liked the idea of killing his mother.

Please, I have the evidence.

For the latest, very fetching campaign for Google Chrome appears to be humongously popular among those who spend their days on the Web forwarding viruses.

Indeed, Ad Age reports that its little chart, prepared in conjunction with Visible Measures, shows that the Google Chrome campaign is the most popular viral entity of the last week.

The Stewie ad has proved, perhaps unsurprisingly, to be the … Read more

Analyst: Apple 60-inch iTV with iRing motion controller to launch in 2013

Topeka Capital's Brian White went on the road, visiting the China-Taiwan tech supply chain to glean some intelligence on what Apple will launch in the coming months, and he found the "iRing."

In his latest research note, issued today, the analyst reaffirmed his prediction that Apple will introduce a 60-inch iTV system in the later part of 2013 for between $1,500 and $2,500, depending on configuration and accessories. He added that it would include an iRing, a small device placed on the finger that serves as a navigational pointer, taking over some of the functionality … Read more

Three-deal Tuesday: A tablet, a laptop lock, and a free episode of 'Game of Thrones'

I realize "three-deal Tuesday" isn't nearly as alliteratively pleasing as "tablet Tuesday," but when you've got three deals to share, well, alliteration be damned! That's right, I said it. (Good lord, I think I have a problem. I may need Alliteration Anonymous.)

Anyway, let's get down to business...

1. Tablet Tuesday. Today only, and while supplies last, Woot has the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7-inch Android tablet for $169.99, plus $5 for shipping. It's new, not refurbished, and it comes with a bunch of extras.

Specifically, an accessory kit that … Read more

Cheerleader assaults centurion? Must be a new Samsung ad

Selling TVs is hard.

Especially if the medium at your disposal is, well, TV.

Most look somewhat the same. Most seem to do very similar things, which is make "American Idol" look and sound better than it really is.

So one can understand Samsung feeling a touch hamstrung in trying to make its Smart TVs look astoundingly intelligent.

In this case -- thank you, Business Insider for finding this -- not only is the budget seemingly enormous, but so are the ambitions.

There are two ads that feature so many themes and special effects that you have come … Read more

Aereo wins big one in streaming case against TV networks

Aereo, the streaming service that allows subscribers to receive and record programs over the air, has won a key court ruling today. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit today denied a preliminary injunction motion (PDF) from television networks that would have prevented Aereo from transmitting recorded broadcast television programs to its subscribers. The court found that the networks, which have charged that Aereo's service is illegal, "have not demonstrated that they are likely to prevail on the merits of this claim in their copyright infringement action."

A 4K Apple TV: Does anyone still care?

Normally, you'd think a rumor that never comes true, despite being circulated continuously for years, would shrivel up and die. Such is not the case with the legend of a fabled Apple TV set, which later became an Apple HDTV set, and now apparently is an Apple 4K screen, according to the latest iteration of the gossip.

But after all this time, the more pertinent question becomes not "will there be an Apple TV?" but "do we still care about an Apple TV?"… Read more
