Artsy Acura animated ad unveiled

Acura enlisted the director duo of Chris Hopewell and Ben Foley of Collision Films (previous work includes music videos for Radiohead and Franz Ferdinand), for this RDX commercial, which uses stop-frame animation techniques.

Watching this TV spot you think the car is traveling in an animated world, but in actuality the car never moves.

The shoot took 17 graffiti artists and painters working on a massive 100-foot by 40-foot wall. All art was done by artists, not CGI. The 10-day shoot for "Wall Art" used more than 450 gallons of paint and 500 cans of spray paint, resulting … Read more

Rally Argentina 2009

As we are in the middle of the 2009 World Rally Championship series, today I present you with footage from the most recent WRC series, Rally Argentina, which took place in April 2009. The video begins with footage taken from a higher elevation, and about halfway through the vid you get a front row view from roadside as the cars whizz by and the dust flies from the gravel. Oh, and in case you're wondering...the winner of this series was Sebastian Loeb. Woo hoo!

Possible smog solution: Air-powered motorcycle

Monday, we told you about a breakthrough in robotics that allows killer machines to be powered by compressed air. Now we've got this amazing video of a motorcycle that uses the same power source. The so-called Air Bike was created by engineering students in India as a prototype for a solution to the country's prevalent smog problem.

Sure, it only goes 11 mph now, but as a proof-of-concept vehicle it's pretty cool. I could imagine a smaller vehicle (bike? moped?) with the same gear that could go much faster as a final product, if it gets that … Read more

This Week: World Rally Championship Racing

My blog theme last week dealt with videos featuring redneck cars and racing. This week my blog goes transcontinental by taking a look at World Rally Championship (WRC) and their many exciting races.

First, a little background info: WRC is organized by the FiA (The F?d?ration Internationale de l'Automobile), which is regarded as the official governing body for many racing events (especially in Europe). The FiA established World Rally Championship in 1973, and the series consists of 12 different three-day events at locations throughout Europe focusing on closed roads featuring varying types of road conditions and driving … Read more

The Great American Redneck Truck Jump

This week, my blog has been dedicated to redneck vehicles, drivers and racing. For my final installment in this series, I found this hilarious web video featuring a group of hilljacks racing their pickup truck over railroad tracks at increasingly accelerated speeds. After realizing the truck was thrashed after numerous jumps (and probably after several beers), the redneck buddies gang up on the truck and tip it over into a ditch. Check it out at 3:00 mark. Totally ridiculous.

NASCAR Crash Mixtape

If there is one word that is usually associated with "redneck", it's gotta be NASCAR. So with my tribute this week to redneck cars and racing, why not have a fun compilation of NASCAR crashes? This particular vid from YouTube supposedly has over 40,000 views...so 40,000 rednecks can't be wrong, right???

Cooler Racing!!!

So far this week, we've seen the sometimes creative, sometimes jury-rigged, and often times hilarious self-modified vehicles that only the American redneck can concoct. With that in mind, I'm pleased to present the viewer with the motorized cooler, and the world of cooler racing.

This vid comes from dirttraxtv.com, where we get to witness the excitement and drama of an off-road cooler relay race. There's everything here you'd get in a typical car or dirt bike race: a couple of wheelies, some crashes, and some rednecks. This modern invention is quite handy--not only can you … Read more
