Trendnet adds wireless monitor to network security camera

Recording and viewing images from a security camera is nothing new, but being able to do that conveniently from any location within a wireless network is. And this is exactly what Trendnet offers at CES 2009 with its first-to-market 7" Wireless Internet Camera Monitor Kit, the TV-M7110WK.

The security surveillance kit includes one 7" Wireless Internet Camera and Photo Monitor, the TV-M7, and a Wireless Internet Camera, the TV-IP110W. The TV-M7 displays streaming IP Camera video in real time via the wireless network.

Energy monitor sees $7.5 million in funding round

Sentilla, a company that makes energy management technology for industrial and commercial facilities, announced Wednesday that it has secured $7.5 million in Series B funding from Onset Ventures and Claremont Creek Ventures.

The energy-management tech company has patented technology that allows people to use microcomputers to remotely monitor the energy consumption of industrial machines, and allow those machines to exchange data with one another, to collaboratively direct energy supplies to facilities as needed.

The communication between the human monitor and the machines themselves is done through a series of small pervasive computers mounted either at the machine or in … Read more

Not-so-new Acer display gets an upgrade

The Acer P224 has been around for a few months, but now the 22-inch display is getting an upgrade.

DisplayLink and Acer announced at CES that the monitor will now be available with a USB hub that not only includes a Dolby speaker system for built-in sound, but DisplayLink technology as well.

DisplayLink technology allows users to connect multiple monitors to a single system solely with USB. DisplayLink also announced that it is extending its support to Acer's B series of monitors, which are more tailored for office use.

As for specs, the 22-inch monitor features a contrast ratio … Read more

Rest easy with Hidetools Child Control

Even though we were disappointed by its brief 14-day trial period, we found this monitoring tool to be top-notch for blocking specific Internet access from children.

Right away, we were impressed by Hidetools Child Control's well-designed user interface. It's both professionally designed and very easy to navigate. Large command buttons represent different blocking options, such as Block Programs, Block Web sites, and Block Windows. Under the Block Programs option, it's easy to choose from a list of default applications. We were also able to manually add others to the list. Sure enough, all of the applications were … Read more

Testing made more pleasant: HP's LP2275w

If it were up to me, a new monitor would break CNET's performance record every week. When a display performs well, the actual testing is just a little less stressful, since I'm not considering putting my fist through it every five minutes (I tend to overreact).

A monitor hasn't impressed me since reviewing the Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP. The HP LP2275w is currently the top performer in our DisplayMate-based performance tests. I'm kind of a sucker for wide viewing angles, and the HP monitor has one of the best I've ever seen.

According to HP, … Read more

A refurbished, rotating 22-inch LCD for $139.99

Remember the 24-inch rotating LCD for $199.99? Here's your chance to nab its 22-inch cousin for $139.99 shipped.

As with other Buy.com promotions of late, you have to use PayPal to get that price; otherwise, it's $149.99 (still an awesome deal).

Like the 24-incher, this "famous maker" liquid-crystal display is comparable to one of HP's monitors, namely the W2207H. In addition to the usual 1,680x1,050 resolution and 5ms response time, it features stereo speakers, a USB hub, and an HDCP-compliant HDMI input (in case you want to connect, say, … Read more

Viewsonic's 1080p TV for your kitchen

This certainly isn't the first time we've seen a monitor with identity issues, but Viewsonic at least gets current HDTV marketing strategies correct by making the VT2430 24-inch LCD monitor HDTV full HD with a 1080p resolution.

Along with the VT2430's 1,920x1,080 resolution you get a 1,000:1 contrast ratio (10,000:1 DCR) and 5ms response time as well as of course an integrated ATSC/QAM TV tuner and connectivity options including a single HDMI 1.3 input with high-definition content protection (HDCP), component, S-video, composite, and RGB analog inputs.

There are 3.… Read more
