Breakfast takes a trip to the dark side

We've all learned by now that eating bread with hearty whole grains is healthier. It has more fiber and has more of the nutrients found in the unprocessed original ingredients, and if you ask me, it tastes much better too. That might have something to do with being raised on multigrain breads (it wasn't until my later day care years that I ate white bread). But enriched white bread makes a pretty tasty peanut butter and jelly, and some kids may need a little bit more persuasion in order to get their daily intake of whole grains.

'Star Wars'-like light syringe could target cancer

OK, the whole Star Wars thing? A little misleading.

Basically, the Herald Sun is reporting on a technology that involves firing a laser beam accurate enough to puncture a hole in an individual cell. Sounds more like The Authority--or any other Mark Millar-written comic--than Star Wars to me.

Anyway, Professor Kishan Dholakia and Dr. Frank Gunn-Moore--both of the University of St. Andrews in Scotland--say the "light saber" could be used routinely on cancer patients within the next five years.

The method would allow chemotherapy drugs to be pumped directly into cancer cells. The researchers believe hard-to-reach … Read more

Report: Army to sink $50 million into combat training games

The Army is investing $50 million into video combat training games and gaming systems over the next five years, in a move to prepare soldiers for battle.

Soldiers, via the video games, will face ambushes and roadside bomb attacks while traveling in convoys, along with a host of other situations that mimic battle under a number of conditions and terrain, according to a report in Stars and Stripes.

The Army's Peo-Stri and gaming unit will monitor the industry, seeking out commercial games and systems it can use for low-cost training, the report noted.

Even though all of us are out of breath and stricken with sore throats from a night of "Whoos!" and "F**K You Tennessee," we still manage to drag ourselves into the studio this morning to celebrate our country's triumphant return to common sense. It's like waking up from an awful nightmare that somehow managed to last eight grueling years. Our special guest on the show today is Randall Bennett, former host of The 404, who helps us weigh on the presidential election, the cheerful optimism resonating from the streets of New York, Twitter's flawless victory in the face of 13562834791 simultaneous tweets, and perhaps most hilarious--the AMAZING CNN HOLOGRAMS! Because when you've got money coming out of your ears and split screens just aren't enough, count on CNN to be the face of American frivolity. USA! USA! USA!

New accessories for better battles on your Wii

I'm no Wii gamer, but I've watched people play on the console many times. It's pretty easy to see how silly it looks when you try to "shoot" or "slice" your opponents with the mundane-looking Wii controller during an action game.

For this reason, I think it's good news that Thrustmaster showed off on Thursday its newest Wii fighting game accessories, including the Glow Saber Duo Pack NW and the Dual Trigger Gun NW.

The Glow Saber Duo Pack NW is designed to house the Wii's controller for existing and upcoming … Read more
