GPS for less: Magellan's RoadMate 1200

Magellan is using SEMA 2007 to launch the latest portable navigation system in its RoadMate family. The RoadMate 1200 is a "budget-conscious" pocket-size GPS device that replaces the RoadMate 2000 at the bottom of the Magellan lineup. The RoadMate 1200 comes with a suggested retail price of $229 and features a 3.5-inch QVGA touch-screen display and a Centrality Atlas processor, which Magellan says provides "superior GPS performance and navigation." Based on our initial attempts to program a destination using the model on display here at SEMA, we're not too convinced that the processor works … Read more

Hot deal: Magellan RoadMate 3000T for $160

We don't often list a refurbished gadget as a "Hot deal," but this one's an exception, since the price is so remarkably low.

When CNET News.com reporter Daniel Terdiman went on his 2006 Road Trip, the Magellan RoadMate 3000T is the Global Positioning System, or GPS, device he brought along.

Prior to this, you could only download waypoints and routes to the company's other handheld GPS devices, but now you can get full-color maps. Just be aware that these are sold separately by National Geographic, though the Triton quintet comes preloaded with Magellan's topographic maps. Other highlights include touch-screen controls, … Read more

Unfortunately, we didn't get to find out how great the food was because my uncle couldn't find the place! We drove around for what felt like hours until we were so starving that we just pulled into the first decent-looking restaurant we could find. I suggested to my cousin that he should get a GPS system for his dad. The Lowrance iWay 500c got a pretty high rating from our editors, but … Read more
