First free Wiimote sleeves, now free DS stylii

Last week, you might have read about Nintendo giving away free Wiimote sleeves. Well, that's not the only swag you can get from Big N in exchange for a serial number. Proud owners of The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass can order their own free, feather-shaped stylus. Just register your game at Nintendo.com, fill out a short survey, and you'll get a shiny new stylus in 4 to 6 weeks. It's neither the most useful stylus (it probably won't fit in the DS Lite's stylus slot), nor is it the most Zelda-centric (is a … Read more

A Link to New York

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass ships this week, so naturally Nintendo tried to get the word out. The company threw a shindig at the Nintendo World Store at Rockefeller Center last Sunday, showing off Phantom Hourglass and giving Zelda fans a chance to play the game early.

The event included a Zelda-themed costume contest and trivia contests, where winners got to leave with their own copies of Phantom Hourglass. The store also brought out plenty of old Zelda memorabilia to display, ranging from Link action figures to the life-size, metal Master Sword and Hyrule Shield Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto … Read more

Zelda game voted best game of all time--WRONG

In a recent poll conducted by Edge Magazine, readers were asked to pick their favorite video games of all time. And while it didn't surprise me that Nintendo games dominated the top 10, I was appalled at what I learned: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time finished first.

As an avid video game purist, I consider some of the games from my storied youth to be the best ever. And while Ocarina of Time warrants a 9.5 out of 10 on my made-up scale, I can think of at least three games that warrant a 10 rating. … Read more

Super Paper Mario is here!

For any Nintendo fan, there are a small number of franchises which make any of their consoles a must have. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was a wildly successful launch title which brought much joy to many of the Wii's initial buyers. The new Metroid title is still in the works, but fortunately for Wii owners Super Paper Mario has recently been released to slake the thirst for Nintendo's most recognizable character. Don't be the last one on your block to own this must have title!

Secrets of great games: The 'Zelda' pattern

(WARNING: This post contains spoilers for the Legend of Zelda games.)

I've been playing a lot of Twilight Princess lately, and I can honestly say that it is a great Zelda game. It's possibly the best one I've played since Ocarina of Time, and it might be even a little bit better. It also made me notice an important fact about the Legend of Zelda series: almost all truly great Zelda games subscribe to the Zelda pattern.

The Zelda pattern is this: collect three things in three dungeons, go through a big plot twist (the "Zelda … Read more

Nintendo DS hits 10 million in sales

Nintendo has announced that it's sold more than 10 million Nintendo DS and DS Lite systems in America, an average of 9 every minute since the system's United States launch in November 2004. According to Nintendo of America frontman Reggie Fils-Aime, Americans can't get enough of the DS.

"More than 5 million people joined the ranks as Nintendo DS owners in America last year alone," Fils-Aime said. "And right now, they're all saying the same thing--Give me more!'"

While I'm loathe to take any marketer at his word (No offense, Reggie), … Read more

What's a Wii without the games?

I know you have one, hidden under the bed or tucked away in the dark recesses of the closet so your friends don't see. That's right, I'm talking about the Wii. If you don't have The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, you're in the bottom 25 percent who haven't jumped all over this title. For a lighter experience, get yourself a copy of Excite Truck. While it doesn't have the most flashy title, the game is addictively fun and is an excellent showcase of Nintendo's new control scheme. You might as well … Read more
