That darned hard drive industry just keeps giving us excuses not to weed out all those old files on the laptop.
Samsung on Wednesday announced a new 2.5-inch hard drive, taking a step ahead of the herd with a 200GB model with a 7200rpm rotation speed.
The SpinPoint MP1 line also will be available in 80GB, 120GB and 160GB capacities when it begins shipping in May, the Korean electronics giant said. The drives use a 3-gigabit-per-second SATA connection and will have 8MB or 16MB of cache memory.
Faster rotational speeds allow drives to find data more quickly and transfer … Read more
Hey, Bubblenauts! It's the second episode of Crave UK's new gadget show, set aboard a little Bubble Ship, floating in space. This week we investigate the gluttonous power consumption of modern gadgets, and prove that "digital" doesn't necessarily mean "more advanced."
We also take a look at a laptop made entirely of bamboo, and kick one particuarly obnoxious mobile phone out of the airlock, where it explodes into a billion shards of ill-concieved plastic resin.
Climb aboard the Space Bubble, a geostationary satellite high above the surface of Earth, crewed by a solitary … Read more
Hey, those are Mio's words, not mine. I'm not really sure what makes its new Mio DigiWalker C220 "spunky," but I know that it's pretty darn affordable for an in-car GPS device. Priced at a budget-friendly $250, the C220 is an entry-level system that's aimed at everyone from the college student to the retiree and comes with maps of the United States (including Alaska and Hawaii) preloaded on an SD card. There are no frills here, just the basics--text- and voice-guided turn-by-turn directions; a 3.5 million points-of-interest database; a 3.5-inch, 65,000-color … Read more
Sales of plasma TVs are humming along, but declining prices led to the category's first-ever year-over-year revenue decline. While that's not such good news for manufacturers and retailers, it's fantastic for consumers.
Unit sales of plasmas brought in $181 million to retailers in February 2007, a 16 percent drop from the $216 million in sales the same month last year, according to data collected by The NPD Group.
Although the number of plasma sets sold was up 30 percent over the same period, the average selling price was $1,688, representing a 35 percent decrease.

At Palm's analyst and investor conference in New York Tuesday, CEO Ed Colligan announced the company is investing in a new Linux-based platform for its line of Treo smart phones.
Colligan said the Linux platform "will build a new foundation for Palm" and give the company, users and developers more flexibility.
The platform has been in development for "a number of years," he said, but emphasized repeatedly that Palm is still committed to the Palm OS and will continue to ship products based on that platform.
Those were the only details provided.

The release of Apple TV a few weeks ago has opened up an intriguing new possibility: streaming music from iTunes on your home computer to your cell phone.
No, Apple TV does not stream over the Internet or across a cellular phone network, but the SlingBox does. And Sling Media, the makers of the SlingBox, confirmed to CNET News.com on Monday that the company is working on making the Slingbox compatible with Apple TV. The most likely--and compelling--scenario would be to allow the streaming of Apple TV content (which is synched with a PC) to a mobile device.

We first got a glimpse of Cowon's super-portable media player, the Cowon Q5, back at CES 2007, but details were pretty foggy on specs, pricing, and availability. However, things are clearing up as the company has announced final pricing and specs for the United States, and the forecast for this PMP looks quite rosy.
First, the Q5 will come in two models: a 40GB version for $499.99 and a 60GB version at $549.99. Both devices are expected to ship by the end of Q2 (sorry, Cowon didn't get any more specific than that), and they … Read more
