iPhone Drive allows device to be used for file storage under Mac OS X

iPhoneDrive is a new Mac OS X application that lets you use your iPhone for file storage, much like an iPod in disk mode. The tool allows you to drag and drop files from the Finder, but needs to be installed on any Mac to which you want the iPhone to accept or send files.

iPhone Drive shows how much space is available on the iPhone and has options for copying to the iPhone or from the iPhone as well as creating folders -- simple but effective.

We previously reported on the TinyBuddy Web-based instant messaging client, which works great on the iPhone. A new iPhone-optimized offering has now been introduced: JiveTalk for iPhone. SAP patches critical security flaws

SAP has patched highly critical security flaws in EnjoySAP and SAP Web Application Server, as well as moderate vulnerabilities in its SAP Message Server, according to security advisories issued Friday by Mark Litchfield of Next Generation Security Software.

Security flaws in EnjoySAP were found due to ActiveX controls "kweditcontrol.kwedit.1" and "preparetopostHTML," which could allow a buffer overflow attack and remote access to users' systems, according to Litchfield, who discovered the flaws.

EnjoySAP is one of the more popular SAP GUIs, noted Litchfield in his advisory, which stated all platforms are affected.

Developers cooling on Windows desktop, study finds

Maybe Microsoft's stronghold grip on the desktop is slipping after all.

But instead of the Web stealing away Windows users, as people have predicted for years, it's Linux and handheld devices.

According to an Evans Data study published on Tuesday, software developers are choosing to write applications for Windows deskop PCs less than they used to.

"iPhonifying" Web pages

David Cann, the Web developer behind iPhoneDigg and iPhoneChat, has released an iPhone "skin" for Google Reader. Unlike his other iPhone Web apps, which create entirely new interfaces that are separately hosted, the Google Reader iPhone Skin employs the GreaseMonkey concept: injecting a new interface into a Web page on the fly by piggybacking Javascript while retaining the underlying functionality. Cann plans to apply this method of "iPhonifying" web pages to other sites in the near future. The Google Reader skin supports starring, viewing Subscriptions, viewing Folders, next/Previous Item and more.

iPhone simulation app gains zoom-to-fit function, goes open-source

The Mac OS X application iPhoney, which simulates an iPhone interface by using WebKit to render pages in 320x480 or 480x320 (depending on how the simulated iPhone is oriented), has been updated to version 1.1 [1.4MB download]. The primary new feature in this release is zoom-to-fit, which will resize Web pages to completely (width-wise) in the iPhone screen. However, there is still no function to emulate "tap-zooming" (zooming in on specific portions of a page) nor touch-scrolling.
