Comeoutandplay isn't worth the effort

Comeoutandplay is an odd little app. It's supposed to "build hype" on Facebook for a specific artist so that he or she will come and play in your city. It also offers searchable content for your artist via YouTube, Google, and iTunes. While it worked as promised, for all the personal info it requires, we'd rather just create our own buzz by logging directly into our own Facebook account.

If you're not already a comeoutandplay user, you have to sign up first. We weren't too happy about having to enter so much personal information, … Read more

Match internal and external display settings with BrightnessSync for Mac

When you're working with internal and external displays, the brightness settings do not automatically match. BrightnessSync for Mac links these two settings together, but its operation is more complicated than necessary.

BrightnessSync for Mac is available as freeware, and there are no payments necessary to unlock full functioning. The program's download and installation occurred as quickly as expected. While there were no instructions in the program itself, a Readme file explained the program's operation and how to use it. Technical support was not present and it did not appear there were updates available. Upon starting, the program … Read more

Comic Book Camera is loads of fun

Comic Book Camera has one purpose, and that is to turn your pictures into comic book-inspired prints. Despite its limited focus, it's a fun app to have in your library.

Comic Book Camera doesn't waste any time; it's ready to snap a picture as soon as you open it. Its editing features are all accessed from the same screen, which also displays your image. The camera operates much like your iPhone's camera. There's a button for flipping the camera if you want to snap a picture of yourself. The FX menu lets you pick from … Read more

Send and share photos between Mac and iOS device with Photos Mate

One of the more frustrating features of the iPhone and iPad is how hard it is to transfer images from a computer to the mobile device. That's what Photos Mate promises to resolve with its iPad and iPhone compatible photo transferring app.

The app is simple. Open it and you see a list of Available Devices. At first, the list will … Read more

Match and spell in Buddy's Read and Spell Lite

The App Store is filled with games and learning tools for children at varying levels of quality. Some are effective but bogged down by messy menus or too many ads. Others are pretty but offer ineffective learning tools that children will only find confusing. Buddy's Read and Spell Lite manages to steer clear of both of these traps to offer an intuitive, fun-to-play game for children that is heavy on learning and whimsy, but light on the distractions and ads that so often bother parents.

After starting the app, children have only one option: to play the game. The … Read more

Keep real-time temperature information right at hand with ThermoInDock for Mac

For laptop users, or for any user performing machine-intensive tasks, it might be reassuring to access temperature data directly from the machine sensors to see how the computer handles temperature increases and stays cool under any workload. With this idea in mind, ThermoInDock for Mac attempts to help you, but doesn't really succeed.

The app mainly consists of a dynamic dock icon that can show you real-time temperature information regarding your machine. We found the default transition rather eye-catching and a little disturbing. It is nice to have this information at hand, but you certainly don't want it … Read more

Randomize your home screen with Wallpaper Changer

Some people can never settle on just one wallpaper for their home screen. Wallpaper Changer can give you a new wallpaper whenever you want. It can even schedule your wallpaper to change at certain times. It works like a charm, but can only use images already on your phone, and doesn't come with new images to choose from.

The fact that this app doesn't download wallpapers for you means it won't make you go over your data limit with random downloads, but it also means you're stuck with the pictures on your phone. It can't … Read more

Add effects to your mobile device's photos with PhotoWonder

Not every photo-editing app has to take itself seriously. This fun app has several powerful features to speak of, but the main goal is to have silly fun with your photos. Photo Wonder adds faces, props and all sorts of other bizarre goodies to your mobile gadget's photos. It's a nice novelty with enough variance to not get too dull too fast.

The app sends plenty of bad grammar and pop-over ads your way while you're trying to work. The editing canvas itself provides plenty of room and features for you to make edits. While Photo Wonder … Read more
