Hands on with the Sony Ericsson C903, W395

The new Sony Ericsson Idou and W995 Walkman weren't the only new handsets sitting pretty in the company's GSMA World Congress booth. We also spied the C903 Cyber-shot and W395 Walkman, which debuted before the show began. To refresh your memory, the C903 is a 5-megapixel camera phone and the W395 is low-end Walkman phone.

We dropped by the Sony Ericsson booth on Tuesday to put the handsets through their paces. First up was the C903. Sporting a slider design, the C903 has a rather angular look, even with the rounded corners. The slider mechanism is solid and … Read more

Nokia N86 8MP now official

On Monday, CNET UK heard rumblings about a Nokia N86 8-megapixel camera phone but we found it odd that we hadn't seen it at Mobile World Congress. After all, we had attended Nokia's press conference, gone to a one-on-one meeting, and no one ever said a word about the N86.

Well, it seems the Nokia N86 was so special that it deserved a separate announcement aside from the Nokia E55 and Nokia E75 and was officially unveiled on the second day of GSMA 2009. The highlight feature of the N86 is its 8-megapixel camera. Nokia N series models, … Read more

BARCELONA--It looks like mobile chipmaker Qualcomm and handset maker Nokia have finally buried the hatchet.

Photos: Hands-on with the HTC Magic Android phone

BARCELONA--After waiting and waiting for an Android phone to appear at the Mobile World Congress, Vodafone on Tuesday unveiled the HTC Magic, the successor to the T-Mobile G1 (formerly known as the HTC Dream). Our friends over at Crave UK were lucky enough to get their hands on a prototype.

The Magic does away with the bulky physical keyboard of the G1 in favor of a touch screen. It's also much skinnier and lighter, but HTC still chooses to deny us a handy 3.5mm headphone jack. Why, oh why, must you torment us so?

Check out some of … Read more

Photos: Toshiba's 'I'm bigger than the iPhone' touch screen

If you thought the iPhone's screen was large, wait till you see the 104mm (4.1-inch) 800x480-pixel face on Toshiba's TG01--a phone our friends over at Crave UK just spent 20 minutes coating in finger grease.

The TG01 was first announced two weeks ago and features a 1GHz CPU from Qualcomm. It will start rolling out sometime this year, but you can get a sneak peak with our gallery below.

SIM card spotted in Palm Pre

We were really hoping that Palm would announce the HSDPA/GSM version of the Pre during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, but that didn't happen. The folks at PreCommmunity managed to get some time with the device, and in a quick shot that showed the back battery cover off, a Vodafone SIM (subscriber identity module) card was spotted.

The fact that it has a Vodafone SIM card indicates that this is a GSM version of the Pre. So even without an official statement we know that Palm doesn't only have the CDMA version ready. Just why the … Read more

BARCELONA, Spain--iPhone maker Apple isn't at GSMA Mobile World Congress 2009 along with the rest of the mobile phone industry, but the company's growing success is definitely top of mind for key executives in the mobile market.

The iPhone and Apple's successful App Store got more than a passing mention on Tuesday during a panel moderated by The Wall Street Journal technology columnist Walt Mossberg.

The panel which included three of the most powerful CEOs in the mobile industry--Ralph de la Vega, CEO of AT&T Mobility, the second largest mobile operator in the U.S.; … Read more
