After winning a $2.7 billion preliminary judgment against Yahoo, a plaintiff in a Mexico City civil court case said the matter can be settled for less than the court's judgment.

The judgment handed down Friday by the 49th Civil Court of the Federal District of Mexico City involved allegations that Yahoo was in breach of contract related to a yellow-pages listing service. The lawsuit was brought by Worldwide Directories and by Ideas Interactivas.

PeopleBrowsr, the social media analytics service behind Kred, has won a temporary restraining order against Twitter that allows it continued access to the microblogging site's firehose of data.

PeopleBrowsr sued Twitter in San Francisco Superior Court today, alleging that Twitter was restricting its access to the tweets and data that is key to providing real-time statistical analysis sought by its clients. The court scheduled a hearing to discuss the injunction for January 8, 2013.

An apparent shell company has filed a $3 million patent infringement lawsuit against Apple for including headphones with its iPhones.

A company called Intelligent Smart Phones Concepts sued Apple last week in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, alleging that Apple infringed on U.S. Patent No. 7,373,182. The abstract for "Wireless Mobile Phone Including a Headset" describes an interface that allows a removable headset "to receive at least telephony audio signals from the phone, and to provide audio signals to the phone."

A California jury must once again decide whether Apple is infringing another company's patents.

Apple, along with fellow defendant LG Electronics, begin a trial today with Multimedia Patent Trust in a San Diego, Calif., court.

Multimedia Patent Trust, a subsidiary of Alcatel-Lucent, sued the two companies in December 2010 for alleged infringement on three of its patents covering video technology.

In what could be the beginning of many lawsuits, Hewlett-Packard is now reportedly being sued by an investor over the brewing Autonomy kerfuffle.

Reuters reported today an investor is suing HP, claiming that the company knew its statements about its Autonomy acquisition were misleading, which led the stock to fall.

The proposed class action lawsuit, Nicolow v. Hewlett-Packard, was filed at the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California in San Francisco.

Internet comic The Oatmeal is back in the legal spotlight after a Massachusetts greetings card company began litigation against the comic for allegedly infringing its trademark.

According to Ars Technica, who first reported the story, the popular Web comic's creator Matthew Inman is being sued by Oatmeal Studios, after Inman joined forces with Recycled Greetings to offer greetings cards based on The Oatmeal's comics.

This caught the eye of Oatmeal Studios, which then filed a suit against Inman in a Boston, Mass. courtroom, claiming a trademark on the term "Oatmeal Studios."

HTC Chief Executive Peter Chou said today that he was happy with the settlement reached with Apple, and called the estimates floating around "outrageous."

Earlier this month, Apple and HTC struck a 10-year cross-licensing agreement, putting to bed a long-running and bitter legal battle. While the companies didn't disclose the terms of the deal, analysts had surmised that HTC was on the losing end, and would pay upwards of $6 to $8 per Android phone.

Adam Witherspoon, who served as a quality assurance engineer at Color, today filed a suit against the company and its CEO, Bill Nguyen, accusing both of creating "an extremely hostile, unsafe, and harassing atmosphere."

Samsung has filed a lawsuit against LG Display in an effort to convince the court that seven of LG's OLED displays don't hold water.

Filed with an intellectual property tribunal in Korea, the suit is seeking to invalidate LG's patents on the grounds that they "lack innovation," according to the Yonhap News agency.

This is just the latest salvo in the ongoing legal turmoil between the two companies.
