Nintendo lifts curtain on 3DS

To the left of the touch screen is an analog "slide button" that will act as a joystick in addition to a conventional D-pad. While the technology behind producing a 3D image without glasses was not disclosed, Iwata did say a 3D depth slider will allow players to … Read more

Net neutrality group signals cooling of hostilities

A new industry effort that bypasses Washington politicians and regulators indicates a cooling of hostilities over Net neutrality rules is underway.

The formal name of the effort is the Broadband Internet Technical Advisory Group (BITAG), which will be chaired by Dale Hatfield of the University of Colorado at Boulder, a former … Read more

Has business press lost touch with the tech industry?

A new report by ITDatabase that examines tech coverage over the last six months from eight top business news publications raises some questions, in particular: Does the business press factor companies' revenue and profits into their tech editorial agenda?

The report shows that Apple and Google dominate, while Twitter and Facebook are far more discussed in the business press than Intel, Dell, IBM, or even HP (the largest tech company in the world).

The eight publications surveyed are: The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Forbes, Fortune, BusinessWeek, The Economist, Financial Times, and USA Today. Over a period of … Read more

Live blog Thursday: YouTube press conference

Update: Things are running a little late. It should be starting around 10:30 a.m. PST.

YouTube is holding a press conference at 10 a.m. PST Thursday and we'll be there live with photos and text updates of whatever it is.

Details are scarce at the moment, but we know for sure it won't be related to mobile phones or movies. That opens up the door for a number of things including new Test Tube features, more TV shows, and that whole live streaming thing which was rumored to be coming out sometime in 2008.

Syndication siphon

We have to preface this review by saying that RSS Content Generator Premier exists in what we consider to be an ethical gray area. We believe that if you want to improve your Web site's search engine ranking or increase its traffic, the way to do this is to provide high-quality, original content. But if you're too lazy and uncreative to do this, you can use a program like RSS Content Generator Premier to steal content from other Web sites instead.

OK, so maybe it's not technically stealing. RSS feeds exist, after all, for the purpose of … Read more

Make your own square eggs

Square eggs sound a little suspicious. We're used to the round kind, after all. The Square Egg Press and Egg Saver offers an alternative, though, allowing you to turn out square hard boiled eggs. Your eggs will make for unique garnishes and will also be a little easier to store. You can even stack your eggs after running them through the Square Egg Press. To use the Square Egg Press, you boil your eggs first and chill them. You then slide the egg inside the press and screw it closed. You'll be able to pull a square egg … Read more
