Recently, we rounded up some of the most overhyped cell phones to date, and we don't think it's too much of a stretch to say that the Apple iPhone might be headed that way. Yet amidst all the serious debate about whether the iPhone is a rip-off or a force to be reckoned with, there's still a little fun to had. BBSpot has a humorous little spoof of a showdown between the iPhone and the Palm Treo, noting upfront that "We haven't had our hands on either device, but that hasn't stopped us from … Read more
Palm released a software update for the Treo 680 Thursday to fix a problem in which the embedded camera drains the smart phone's battery.
"Palm has identified that the Treo 680 device can experience reduced battery life when the camera is used. The camera may continue to draw power from the battery when the device is in standby mode," a posting on the Palm Web site said. All Treo 680 users should install the Camera Update, the company said. This is good news for Slingbox owners who also have a Treo 700p, which utilizes Verizon's EV-DO network. Treo 680 users will be able to sling their TV as well, but Sling cautions that the EDGE network it runs on is not an ideal connection.
But that's not all: SlingPlayer will also be pre-loaded onto all HP laptops in 2007 as part of the QuickPlay feature, which plays music, movies, and now TV, … Read more
Well, well, well, looky here: CES 2007 hasn't even officially started, and we already have a hot little product announcement: the Palm Treo 750 for Cingular. Actually, as per usual, this news wasn't much of a secret; details of the release leaked onto the Web prior to the show. Plus, we were expecting to see this Windows-based Treo drop before the holidays, but after delays with carrier certification, the launch was pushed back till after the new year, and CES is certainly the place to debut it (after all, it served as the backdrop for the Treo 700w … Read more
For all you last-minute holiday shoppers, your procrastination may have paid off. The Boy Genius Report says demo units of the Palm Treo 750 have started arriving at Cingular stores, which could mean an official release is imminent. It's been rumored for some time that the smart phone would hit in Q4 2006, but still, there are no details about specific availability dates or pricing.
As a refresher, the Treo 750 is the U.S. variant of the Palm Treo 750v, which was released in Europe in October this year. It runs Windows Mobile 5 and sports the new, … Read more
The Palm Treo 680 will debut on Cingular Wireless as we're all recovering from gorging ourselves on turkey and stuffing.
It's official: beginning November 24, you can get yourself a Treo in a color besides boring graphite or arctic blue because now you can choose crimson or copper, too. (Oops, that rhymed. Sorry.) The lowest-cost Treo yet, it is priced (with a contract, of course) at $199.
Way back in March, Palm cofounder Jeff Hawkins alluded to the fact that he was working on a mysterious third product category for the company, but we really haven't heard much about it since. (And frankly, that's quite a feat given Palm's horrible record of keeping its product announcements a secret, but I digress.) However, yesterday, a former vice president of product planning at Palm, Michael Mace, asked Palm CEO Ed Colligan if the project was still a go, and though he was quick to move on to the next question, Colligan said yes. We don't get it: Do people's hands really get that cold on the keyboard? In the last few days alone, a plethora of hand-warming products have appeared on various blogs, including one here on Crave that would be the envy of everyone at the soup kitchen.
Prolific gadget maker Brando (gotta love the name) is addressing the demand by building a heater right into one of its peripherals. Fareastgizmos says the temperature of this "USB warmer optical mouse" can be raised by 45 degrees. At $22, it probably doesn't have a temperature gauge, but it … Read more
Well, I suppose not everyone is screaming hallelujah, but for all you Treo fanatics, here's the latest scoop on some upcoming models. It appears that both the Treo 750 and the Treo 680 have been given the green light by the FCC, which means that these GSM smart phones could end up at a certain carrier's (ahem, Cingular's, cough, cough) doorstep very soon. Stay tuned...

The Palm Treo might really want to start thinking about getting a Hollywood agent. The smart phone, which this year made small-screen appearances on shows including How I Met Your Mother, CSI: Miami, The Nine and Boston Legal, has landed a starring role in A Good Year with Russell Crowe. Don't let all the red-carpet action go to your head, Treo.
The film, which opens Friday, is directed by Ridley Scott, the same guy behind the classic 1984 Super Bowl commercial that launched Apple's Macintosh computer.
In A Good Year, Crowe plays London-based investment expert Max Skinner, who … Read more
