The 404 246: Where we send Justin back to the right coast

Technically it's the "left" coast but yes, Justin Yu will be traveling three hours back in time next week as he makes his way back to California to spend the holidays with family. So my present to Justin is doing this blog post for him.

The 404 will continue on as we've got plenty of great guests planned for the last week of shows for 2008. Make sure you listen next week as we've got Wicker Hollow, Rana Sobhany, and Libe Goad all booked! Also, send us your best Morgan Freeman impressions for a chance to win the new Prince of Persia video game.

On today's show, we reminisce about last night's debauchery known as the "Black-Ops Holiday Party." Justin was a disaster after just three sips of rum and we've got the photographic evidence to prove it. We'll disclose those photos at a later date--maybe when he's gone next week.

Check out today's episode to learn more about the nude photographic habits of America's teenage population along with some great voice mails and e-mails from the public. Have a great weekend!

The 404 239: Where we stop eating sesame cake

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, stealing the Empire State Building, and pirates make their appearance. As usual, it's a weird show today. We discover the classic line from the movie Congo from 1995, starring Tim Curry. Let's just say "Stop eating sesame cake" has become a new catchphrase for The 404. Yes, we're alienating more and more new listeners. Please, for the love of God, tell your friends about this show!

Jeff hates on the possibility that there will be a new Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie. It looks like Joss Whedon is attached to the flick, but sadly no Sarah Michelle Gellar. Also, we discover new and easy ways to pirate content off of Amazon.com...not that we ever would. We don't even know what pirating is. Honest to God. Speaking of stealing stuff, the New York Daily News manages to steal the Empire State Building. Makes us feel really safe here in New York City. We talk about the life lessons that Trey Parker and Matt Stone have taught us through South Park. An idiot guy gets his cell phone stolen at a McDonald's with nude pictures of his wife. Rather than suing McDonald's for $3 million, we think his wife should sue him for divorce. And for the love of all things that are holy, please STOP making those Scary Movie or Saw flicks!

The 404 235: Where now we love Christian rock

With Justin at home sick, we invite MTI into the studio today to take his place. After we take the proper sanitary precautions with Justin's microphone, we chat about Twitter's questionable decision to reject a $500 million buyout offer from Facebook.

Next it's on to a fairy tale story starring Steve Jobs as the fairy godmother. Seems some kid (who is clearly more well-off than the average college student) sent him an e-mail desperately seeking a student discount for Final Cut Studio. Jobs waved his magic wand and sent him the package totally free. Wow Steve, that's awfully nice of you. How bout hooking The 404 up with a Mac Pro that won't drop our Ustream feed?

So sit back, relax, and enjoy the short week. Download today's episode for more stories from around the Web, a ridiculously huge Calls from the Public session, and some Christian rock apologies.

The 404 229: Where there's no one here to pick on Wilson

With Jeff on vacation and Justin dying of stomach herpes, Wilson is left alone to hold down The 404 fort. Mark Licea and Joey Kaminski join him today to talk about Quantum of Solace, Obama's BlackBerry, and ordering pizza from your TiVo.

Unfortunately, Wilson doesn't have the writing prowess of a one Justin Yu, but he'll do his best today to sum up what was a relatively disaster free show. First of all, he actually did pay attention to the chat room. So all you haters out there, Wilson can read. We also wish our second favorite Asian, J-Yu, a speedy recovery. We know we shouldn't have let him go home with that woman. Mark Licea joins the show to talk a bit about the latest Bond-movie and how kick ass it was. Mr. Kaminski chimes in on President-elect Barack Obama's BlackBerry addiction and its threat to national security. People keep on getting lazier, with cell phone airport check-in and ordering pizza from their TiVos. This, in turn, brings up memories of My Half-ton Dad on TLC. (Seriously people when you hit 400 lbs. put down the cheeseburger and see a doctor!)

Finally, the latest trailer for the new J.J. Abrams-directed Star Trek comes out today. So for all your Trekkies out there, check your pants. It's already an order of magnitude more exciting than the craptastic Star Trek: Nemesis we got a few years ago. And we pay our respects to ValleyWag and Total Request Live. Only the former deserves our respect.

Shaun White tells The 404 about his new snowboarding video game

Be sure to check out Friday's episode of The 404 where we welcome pro snowboarder and skateboarder Shaun White to the studio. He talks to us about his new game from Ubisoft coming out on Sunday called Shaun White Snowboarding.

The title will be available for all major gaming platforms and allows you to roam freely on various mountains. Shaun talks to us about his role in the development of the game and what it was like recording voice-overs and motion capture. We talk about his other input on the game, including compiling the title's very respectable soundtrack. … Read more

The 404 216: Where no one can hear you scream

Today, Dead Space producer Rich Briggs joins us for the second half of the show to talk about one of the scariest games we've played in recent memory.

But first, we dish out the dirt on video gamer enemy No. 1, Jack Thompson. It seems old Jacky has finally been disbarred from practicing law in the great state of Florida; good riddance. Next, Wilson enlightens us as to why the Internet may be killing our brains and how he knows the guy who can help.

The second half of the show features an interview with Dead Space producer Rich Briggs. We ask Rich all about his terrifyingly good game and what went into making one of the creepiest games of all time. We take live questions from that chat room and see what horror movies influenced Rich and the rest of the Dead Space team.

Finally, our Dan Ackerman contest winner is announced and Zen from Arizona has taken first prize. Check one of his winning submission (Ackerman/Palin), along with some other entries below.

The 404 210: Where who's that chick who just moved in across the hall?

MTI saves the day on a show where Wilson is MIA in northeastern America. Mark chats us about how a new e-card service will tell the one you've loved that they need to get checked out. Also, we read up on who's being a dick according to dickipedia.org (Jeff), and how the PSP firmware 5.0 was hacked in record time.

A big thanks to Clayton Morris today for supplying us with today's most bizarre story. Of course it deals with automobile-related cleaning equipment and human anatomy, but what else would you expect from the co-host of Fox News' Fox and Friends?

Another huge thanks goes out to 404 long-time listener Jamey from Tennessee. He graced us with his new 404 intro theme that we absolutely love and begin the show with today for the first time.

It's just a good-old fashioned Tuesday on the 404; plenty of laughs to help you get through the day.

The 404 199: Where we're losing our religion

Today's 404 is filled with information you can't live without. Apparently, overeating does terrible things to your brain, Americans love talking animals, graphics processes have maxed out, and the Wii may be overrated.

Since Justin isn't here today, we can actually talk about gaming with no fear. MTI was able to take Mr. Yu's place today allowing us to properly converse about the idea that gaming graphics have ultimately reached their full potential. Also, we'll talk about the Wii's shortcomings and what we'd really like to see next time Nintendo makes a home … Read more

The 404 gets down and dirty at the CNET Tiburon launch party

The 404 is proud to present our official podcast from the Tiburon Launch party. The event was held at the elegant 450 Club complete with hors d'oeuvres (vodka spritzer, anyone?), desserts, and of course, an open bar. After sitting down with a host of people and later sifting through a mountain of cuss words, deviant behavior, and otherwise inappropriate material, it's easy to see that people had a blast. The new CNET.com looks fantastic and we all worked hard to see it come to life, so a big thanks to everyone that came out, especially Jim Loughran … Read more

The 404 190: Where it's just the two of us

Wilson Tang thought it'd be a better idea to cover the new Google Android phone today, and we can't disagree. So that just leaves myself and a one Justin Yu to fend for ourselves on today's 404.

Today we'll talk about why it's a bad idea for record companies to release albums on thumbdrives, a U.K. family that lives in a pig sty, and how an Xbox Live Survey seems to be an accurate sampling of how the gaming demographic will vote this November.

Also, Justin updates us on his Justin PSYu Foundation campaign, enlightening us with the difficulty he's having in completing God of War--a game my 11-year-old female cousin has finished three times.

All this plus a HUGE calls-from-the-public session on a very personal and intimate 404.
