Sprint has just released the Motorola Deluxe ic902, the latest in its line of PowerSource phones that combines the best of the Sprint and Nextel services. Weighing around 4.8 ounces, we wouldn't exactly call it a slim and stylish cell phone; it's more of a rugged and durable device made for industrial use. That said, the Deluxe ic902 does have quite a number of useful features. It utilizes Nextel for walkie-talkie services and Sprint for voice and data. The Deluxe ic902 is also the first to support Sprint's higher-end services like PowerVision--this means it has access … Read more
The American public will get its first chance to buy the iPhone at 6 p.m. in each local time zone, Apple confirmed Wednesday.
Somehow, I don't think Apple and AT&T will have two-for-one specials on the iPhone, but my New York-based colleagues will be the first to see how crowds react to the release of the iPhone at 6 p.m. ET. Those of us out here in California will have to wait until 6 p.m. our time for the official release of the phone, in yet another blatant example of East Coast bias.

Get ready for another wacky, or perhaps naughty, cell phone dangle from our friends in Japan. We've seen dangles of drunks and golden turds already, but now we turn our attention to Strapya-world's latest winner: "sexy underwear" dangles. For just $8.79 you, too, can attach a miniature piece of lingerie to your phone. The bras and panties (just for the record, I never thought I'd write those two words in a tech blog) are sold separately, but you can combine them to make a matching set. Styles include fairy garden, spear panther, midnight purple, … Read more
Sprint's Samsung UpStage remains one of the most interesting cell phones introduced this year. With its dual-sided design, it certainly stands out among the cell phone crowd. True, not everyone will love the constant flipping motion, but you have to give Samsung props for originality.
Today the UpStage received a breath of fresh air when Sprint and Samsung introduced a new version in bright red. All the features are the same, and you can get it from the bargain-basement price of $99 starting June 18.
As one might expect, I get a lot of press e-mails, and most of them fail to amuse me. That's not to say they're bad--many are quite useful and even interesting. Most of them are just not particularly funny. However, I'd be lying if I said I didn't get a chuckle out of one that I received this morning with the subject "Sprint's Pop 10 playlist." At first glance, it seemed innocuous enough, but then I got to the meat of the thing: the actual playlist. The title? Paris Hilton Goes to Jail...… Read more
One of the first things you'll need to do with your new iPhone is register with the iTunes Store in order to activate the handset.
Apple revealed the requirement in an e-mail sent Tuesday to those who had registered to receive e-mail updates on the TMHGIH (The Most Hyped Gadget In History). Presumably, most of the iPhone early adopters will be Apple devotees with current iTunes Store accounts, but for those who don't have an account already, have your credit card ready during the iPhone setup process.
Why would Apple do this? For one thing, iTunes is the … Read more
According to Mrgan's Twitter page, the app existed as early as May 31. That's either tremendous foresight by Mrgan, amazing luck that Apple announced Safari as the official iPhone app engine yesterday at WWDC, … Read more
It's been a few days since the Nokia 5700 Xpress Music first arrived on my desk, and I've had the chance to give it a thorough going-over. Overall, I like what I see, though I can't give it the CNET Editors' Choice award that I bestowed upon its Nokia 5300 predecessor. While it offers improved features, the photo quality didn't fare quite as well, and it isn't optimized for U.S. 3G networks. But even with those misgivings, it's a superior music phone in all respects, and it makes good calls, too. The twisting … Read more
We at CNET News.com dialed up 75 Apple and AT&T retail stores this week in hopes of dislodging some secrets to landing--or, although it seemed forbidden in most cases, even reserving--a coveted iPhone.
The verdict? No one's really sure how the scheduled June 29 launch will unfold, much less how many phones they'll have in stock. But many stores are bracing themselves for long lines and pitched tents well before the gadgets arrive.
Here's our full story on the big hunt, and here are a few tips for making the iPhone yours:
