Cadillac CTS Coupe Concept

When we had the new Cadillac CTS in for a review last year, it impressed us enough to give it an Editors' Choice. At the 2008 Detroit auto show, Cadillac is capitalizing on its success with that car by showing off a coupe version. This coupe design concept does away with the rear doors, stretches the front doors, and pulls the roof line all the way back to the trunk lip, creating a fast back look. In addition, it achieves more sporty lines by emphasizing the connection between the A-pillar and the hood. Overall, the car represents an uncompromising demonstration … Read more

XM radio shows us its future

At CES, XM satellite radio was being secretive, encasing its floor area in black walls. But we swung an invite to the inner sanctum and got treated to a smorgasbord of new XM services available now and in the near future. The first thing our XM spokesman showed us was a whole new interface for XM's music channels. We've seen plenty of boring fonts for XM radio interfaces in cars and car stereos, but we've never seen the cool graphics for channel identification and the backgrounds that XM showed us. According to XM, these graphics are part … Read more

Vote in the 2007 Car Tech Awards

Another year comes to a close and we consider all the amazing cars we've reviewed. For this year's Car Tech Awards, we've nominated 10 cars in the contest for the 2007 Tech Car of the Year. You can look at the nominees, find out why we selected each one, and cast your vote. We will take the result or our reader poll and the votes of our staff judges to decide the 2007 Tech Car of the Year, which we will announce on January 14, 2008. We also have a set of additional awards for such categories … Read more

Cadillac CTS wins Motor Trend car of the year

Don't say we didn't tell you so. The 2008 Cadillac CTS, which we awarded an Editors' Choice barely three weeks ago, has won Motor Trend's Car of the Year award for 2007. The redesigned Caddy beat out competition from the 2008 Audi TT, the Volvo C30, the Scion xD, and the new Honda Accord to take the laurels.

In the press release that brought us the news today (heaven forbid that subscribers of the magazine actually have to wait to get their January issue of the mag to find out) Motor Trend's editor made special mention … Read more

Cadillac Escalade goes green?

Cadillac gives a nod towards the environmental set with its all-new hybrid Cadillac Escalade, which gets a 50 percent fuel economy improvement over the standard Escalade. The Escalade has been a symbol of conspicuous consumption, so it seems surprising that Cadillac would outfit it with a gas-saving hybrid powertrain. But this hybrid system, developed in conjunction with Mercedes-Benz and BMW, works very well, and won't detract from the Escalade's luxury image. We've driven a GMC Yukon Hybrid using this same system and came away impressed. Starting out, the truck drives like a Prius, under electric power up … Read more

Review: 2008 Cadillac CTS

Currently, the cheapest Cadillac is the best one you can buy. The all-new 2008 Cadillac CTS, at the bottom of the Cadillac lineup, builds in great performance and superior cabin tech. If it had better emissions performance, it would truly hit the trifecta. Read our review for the full run-down on the cabin gadgets and the performance of the 2008 Cadillac CTS.

Bob Dylan plugs the 2008 Cadillac Escalade

You know the times are a-changin' when you see Bob Dylan in a commercial for the Cadillac Escalade. In an ad campaign beginning today with a 30-second TV spot, the counterculture icon is shown driving across the desert behind the wheel of the '08 blingmobile in an effort to highlight its as-standard XM Radio. Dylan hosts his own "Theme Time Radio Hour" show on XM, which will this week feature a Cadillac-themed episode.

In today's press release, Liz Vanzura, Global Marketing Director for Cadillac, said that the automaker was "pleased to join XM in this exciting … Read more

The Cadillac of golf carts, literally

Let's say you want to impress your golfing buddies but are afraid of accidentally doing bodily harm to them with a mini-Hummer. There's another way to state your machismo, with the "Berline Cadillac Escalade Golf Cart."

It's actually a little cheaper than the Hummer too--if $13,995 can be called cheap at any juncture, that is, for a golf cart. That buys you "a hand-laid fiberglass body, marine-grade vinyl seats, custom paint and chrome mirrors," according to Uncrate, though a custom hard top will cost more.

The Escalade cart is electric despite its … Read more

2008 Cadillac CTS: Race ready?

The word "performance" seems to be thrown around a lot in the automotive world these days. With increasing expansion and competition within the luxury sport sedan category, manufacturers are eager to drop statistics about horsepower, torque, zero-to-60 speeds, and other numbers to woo (and maybe even slightly intimidate) potential buyers. But specifications alone can't convey the true spirit of a car; as Aristotle said, the whole is more than the sum of its parts. So it makes sense that the ideal road test subjects the car to a wide range of variables: twisty turns of varying camber, … Read more
