The PlayStation Network is officially the first console marketplace to offer original content from premium cable network HBO. Starting today, PlayStation 3 and PSP owners will be able to purchase and download seasons and individual episodes via the PlayStation Store.

Available immediately are seasons one and two of "True Blood," season one of "Eastbound and Down," one through three of "Big Love," and one and two of "Entourage."

Even though Showtime is owned by CNET parent company CBS, I know little about the network and have no influence over it. Which is unfortunate because I have something to say about news that Showtime may launch its own online streaming site. 

If my CBS colleagues at Showtime are reading this, here is a tip: Don't limit a streaming site to current subscribers only. Pay-TV juggernaut HBO has officially announced the launch of HBO Go, a video-streaming service.

Unless you are one of the 38 million cable subscribers who gets HBO or sister service Cinemax, HBO Go won't be offered to you, the company has said.

HBO Go provides subscribers Web access to the same movies HBO screens on cable TV--at no extra charge. This is the on-demand movie provider's attempt to hang on to subscribers during a down economy, as Netflix and other Web video services attract more and more consumers looking to reduce entertainment costs.

Time Warner and Adobe Systems announced on Monday a strategic and non-exclusive alliance wherein the two companies will work with one another to build DRM and Flash publishing into three of Time Warner's properties. Included in the alliance is Warner Bros. Entertainment, Turner Broadcasting System, and Home Box office.
