Sony unveils minor PSP upgrade

Those rumors about a PSP redesign turned out to be true--sorta. Demoed onstage at the Santa Monica E3 show by Sony's Kaz Hirai, the new PSP doesn't look all that different on the outside, but it's said to be 33 percent lighter, 19 percent slimmer, offer better battery life, faster game load times, and video output to TVs.

Separately, the company will also bow PSPs in two new colors: "ice silver" and a Star Wars-themed white PSP emblazoned with Darth Vader's visage. Both the colored PSPs will be available in "Entertainment Pack" … Read more

E3: 'Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles' trailer

You just can't keep an evil, zombie-spawning corporation down. Capcom continues the Resident Evil story with Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles, a rail shooter for the Nintendo Wii that has you loping through creepy, cramped hallways and blowing the heads off of hideous, mutated monsters. The game supports the newly announced Wii Zapper, so you can actually aim a "gun" at these creatures instead of just the Wiimote. Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles ships later this year.

E3: 'Soul Calibur Legends' trailer

Use the Wiimote to swing Zeigfried's sword, Ivy's whip-sword, and Taki's ninja swords in Soul Calibur Legends, an action adventure heading to the Nintendo Wii. Instead of the tournament-fighting action we've come to expect from the Soul Calibur series, Soul Calibur Legends focuses more on quest-based brawling and exploring. Namco's hack-and-slash adventure hits the Wii this holiday season.

Update: Rhapsody's coming to a Clix near you

Update: I just got word from iRiver that--unlike with the Sansa-Rhapsody deal--you will not need to buy a new 2G Clix in order to enjoy the Rhapsody DNA experience. Current owners of the player will get access to a free firmware update, which is expected to become available on the iRiver Web site sometime in July. Very nice.

This morning, iRiver officially announced a partnership with Rhapsody that optimizes the second-generation Clix for use with the music service. Although the player was already compatible with subscription tracks from on-the-go services (Rhapsody included), it now includes Rhapsody DNA. This new software … Read more

Bioshock is the highly anticipated first-person shooter that takes place in the underwater dystopic land of Rapture. The developers have promised a unique first-person shooter experience unlike anything witnessed before, including a vast storyline which gradually unravels as players make their way through the game. E3: 'World in Conflict' trailer

Add Sierra's World in Conflict to the list of enticing real-time strategy games for 2007. The game envisions a Cold-War-turned-hot conflict between the U.S. and Soviet Union, with an emphasis on pick-up-and-play action over resource management. Look for it on the PC and Xbox 360 in the fall of 2007.

Take a stand with 'Wii Fit' and its new controller

Ever since Wii Sports got gamers off their couches and onto the floor in front of their couches, the Wii has been a big deal for health-conscious gamers. The Wiimote's motion-oriented controls keep players active as they swing, slash, and roll in different games. Now Nintendo is taking the next step in making the Wii fitness-friendly, and they're not even using the Wiimote to do it.

At a press conference today, Nintendo announced Wii Fit. Like its name implies, Wii Fit is a fitness game for the Nintendo Wii. Like Brain Age used the Nintendo DS to exercise … Read more

'Mario Kart' coming to the Wii with online play

It's not the most surprising announcement at E3, but it certainly is one of the most anticipated by Nintendo fans. Nintendo just announced Mario Kart Wii. Nintendo's seminal arcade racer is finally bringing its shell-slinging, kart-driving action to the Wii. While Nintendo has been pretty quiet about Mario Kart Wii, it's safe to say that the game will let you play as Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, or any other number of Nintendo characters across a number of Mario-themed tracks. At Nintendo's press conference today, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime cryptically said, "More racers mean more … Read more

Sweet deal of the day

Yesterday, DAPreview reported some astonishing new pricing for Creative's Zen V line of MP3 players. I headed over to Creative's U.S. site to investigate for myself and discovered that this is indeed a fact. Since the line's release in June of last year, the Zen Vs have dropped an average of 35 percent, while the Zen V Pluses have enjoyed a 22 percent to 43 percent price drop (depending on capacity). The big steal at the moment? The 4GB players, which clock in at $99.99 for the Zen V and $109.99 for the Zen V Plus. … Read more
