Review: Black & White Master easily customizes photos in black & white

Black & White Master takes one of the most frustrating components of photo editing on the iPhone and makes it as intuitive and easy to do as possible, using swipe and touch gestures built into the app's interface. It is not the best photo editing app on the App Store, but certainly a very fun one to use.

Black & White Master performs exactly as it sounds, allowing you to turn your photos into black & white images (or take new ones in black & white). When you open the app, you will select or take an image, and … Read more

Review: Snap'd Us gives your pictures flair with an auto-caption feature

Snap'd Us is a perfect tool for anyone that wants to take advantage of the surge in visual memes and share more images with their friends and family. It is easy to use, customizable, and doesn't try to do too much. Combined with a basic interface, it is a well constructed app for captioning photos.

Snap'd Us is not a feature-rich app, but what it does, it does well. Open the app and you can quickly take a photo with the "Camera" button. After taking a photo, it will automatically assign a caption to the … Read more

Review: StashPixFree is a good idea, but lacks certain mustache-related features

StashPixFree automatically recognizes faces on the screen and adds a mustache to them, even as the camera is moving. Such a concept could make for a fun app, but unfortunately StashPixFree never builds on this basic idea and the result is ultimately forgettable.

The app does nothing else, the interface is very limited, and the ads are intrusive, but the delivery of the primary draw in this app is well done. It effectively displays and tags each image with a classic curlicue mustache as you take the photos. Of course, being a one-trick app has its limitations. You cannot edit … Read more

Review: Stick Texting Lite livens and customizes texting in a new and exciting way.

Stick Texting is a great concept that can turn boring text messages and e-mails on their head. The free app has a number of limitations, but even without the full library of animated and standard stick drawings, this is an app that you'll continue using over and over again to customize your text messages.

The iPhone (and any device like it) has changed how people send text messages. Images, emoticons, and animations are now easy to send from device to device, especially with Apple's free Messages service. Stick Texting takes advantage of that by allowing you to copy … Read more

Reviews: Things to Spot is a well-crafted hidden object game, fun for all ages

Things to Spot perfectly captures the mood and fancy of children in a way that makes it ideal for that age group. It provides an engaging, entertaining experience that is perfectly suited for children - from pre-school to upper elementary.

The goal of Things to Spot is to find and tap objects in a scene as they are shown. A card in the top-right corner will show an item and how many are on the screen. The player must then find and tap each of them to circle and call it out. Each scene is rich with detail, but not … Read more

Review: Take a visual city tour with PicsAround

PicsAround is a unique app that lets you explore an area of town using pictures. We were skeptical of what it could produce, but were pleasantly surprised by the historical landmarks it found.

Unsurprisingly, PicsAround needs to use your current location data to pull up pictures. Once we allowed the app to pull our data, it went to work finding fun places. We were actually out of town when we tested the app, and not in the most vibrant part of the city. We were curious to see what the app could find, and were surprised to find that it … Read more

Review: Add practical touches to your pics with PhotoCap

There are a ton of photo editing apps out there to add all kinds of crazy effects to your iPhone's pictures, but this is the first that we've come across that actually lets you add more practical touches. PhotoCap is a unique app in that it lets users add a timestamp and caption to their phone pics. It's super-easy to use and effective, and for that we recommend it.

PhotoCap doesn't waste time: It opens with the camera ready to go. The timestamp appears in the right corner of the screen, waiting for you to snap … Read more

Review: Times Tables Game offers a colorful if limited multiplication learning tool

Times Tables Game does a good job of tapping into many of the things that make a good educational app for the iPad, but it is missing some very important components. Due to a limited trial, sometimes messy interface, and convoluted menu system, it works best when a parent directly oversees play by the child.

Times Tables Game is designed to help children learn their times tables in a colorful, easy-to-use interface. With animals, lots of bright colors, and flowers onscreen, combined with light animations, the app is pleasant to look at, though it can get busy and the directions … Read more

Review: Funny Movie Maker - Replace Your Face is short on features

Funny Movie Maker - Replace Your Face lets you create funny videos by replacing or adding your own mouth and voice to pictures. The app was put on this earth to entertain and it succeeds; however, you're limited to only three pictures and certain features in the free version. To unlock the other faces and features, you'll have to pay.

Funny Movie Maker opens with three unlocked faces: a blonde who is missing a face, a strawberry with eyes, and a picture of Benjamin Franklin. Like we mentioned earlier, if you want to use another template, you'll … Read more

Review: Cover Photo Maker for Facebook Free customizes your cover photo

Cover Photo Maker for Facebook Free lets users easily create their own custom Facebook cover photos. While a few features were off limits in the free version we tested, we were still pleased by the number of tools available to us and their ease of use.

First, to get started with Cover Photo Maker for Facebook, you'll need to choose a layout from a pretty large menu. We opted for the three blocks, side by side. Tapping each block gave us access to our iPhone's albums, where we selected a picture. With just the touch of your fingertip, … Read more
