2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS four-door coupe to start at $71,300

Mercedes-Benz this week released pricing information and specs on the all-new CLS-Class coupe.

This is a major redesign for Mercedes. The four-door coupe is 1.2 inches longer and wider than its predecessor, and with new biturbo direct-injection V8 engines, the three trims offer some surprising features.

The CLS550 features a new 4.6-liter direct-injection twin-turbo V8; delivering 402 horsepower and 443 lb.-ft. of torque. It is equipped with new electrically assisted power steering, Airmatic air suspension, and a revised seven-speed automatic transmission. The CLS550 will offer an estimated 18 mpg city and 26 mpg highway.

Mercedes-Benz reveals specs on two new V8s

Mercedes-Benz today unveiled two new engines for the 2011 CL-Class.

The first of two all-new direct injection biturbo V8 engines is for the 2011 CL550 4MATIC. According to Mercedes, the 4.6-liter V8 engine has 20 percent smaller displacement than its predecessor, but delivers 429 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, which is 12 percent more horsepower and 32 percent more torque. It also has an improved fuel economy of about 10 percent. The CL550 4MATIC will have an MSRP of $114,025.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate breaks cover

Photos of the Estate variant of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class were released on Tuesday and, in the immortal words of Sir Mix-a-Lot, "Baby got back!." The Estate starts with the E-Class sedan platform and pumps up the rear storage to create a surprisingly handsome wagon.

The Estate takes many of the design cues that we first saw on Mercedes' ConceptFascination design study, such as the defined rear-fender bulge, but with a pair of extra doors and a much less severely sloped roof.
