Jaguar shows off at traveling Alive Driving Experience

When many people think Jaguar, they think of slippery British sports cars lead by long, flowing hoods. They think of the E-Type: one of the most beautiful cars ever built. However, maybe more people probably think of the awkward S-Type and the questionable reliability of just about every Jaguar model built before the turn of the century. Clearly, Jaguar has some work to do to improve its reputation.

Recently, I was given an opportunity to experience the automaker's latest reputation repair tool: an 18-city Jaguar Alive Driving Experience program that allows the public to try out the automaker's … Read more

Jaguar taps RealVNC for BlackBerry-integrated infotainment

RealVNC announced at the BlackBerry World Conference this week that it will be supplying Jaguar and Land Rover with a smartphone-integrated infotainment system.

RealVNC demonstrated the Connect and View system using a BlackBerry smartphone connected to a RealVNC Connect and View infotainment system connected to a BlackBerry smartphone in a Jaguar XJ head unit. When linked with a BlackBerry device, Connect and View uses Terminal Mode to replicate music and navigation applications on the car's in-dash screen.

A few automotive manufacturers such as GM, Toyota, and BMW are using similar technology in their vehicles. So far, some manufacturers have … Read more

A Jaguar with nine lives

Safety is always a priority for manufacturers, but Jaguar's XJ Sentinel goes to extremes. The luxury sedan can withstand B7 grade weaponry such as an AK-74 and up to 15 kilograms (33 pounds) of exposives detonated within close proximity.

The bulletproof Sentinel will debut at the 2010 Moscow International Motor Show, but don't expect to be blown away (couldn't resist)--its exterior is indistinguishable from the standard long-wheelbase XJ models. The difference is in the chassis that's been constructed from specialized high-strength steels with Kevlar backing.

The standard XJ has a 3,909-pound curb weight, while … Read more

Drifting with Jaguar

For whatever it's worth, the new Vin Diesel racing flick Fast and Furious topped the box office charts over the weekend. So, I thought it timely to bring you a drifting video for today's blog. And keeping with the "All About Jaguar" theme for this week, I managed to find a recent online video featuring someone drifting in a Jaguar XJ sedan.

This video apparently comes from Germany, and it features some cool drifting moves in what appears to be a mid-2000's edition of the Jaguar XJ sedan. The soundtrack goes along real well with … Read more

Back to the Future: The Original Jaguar XJ Sedan

In keeping with the "Salute to Jaguar" theme for this week, I thought it would be neat to give you all a blast from the past with this video featuring the very first Jaguar XJ sedan ever produced. This vintage video comes from the 1968 Earl's Court Motor Show, and the Jaguar XJ6 is shown right at the beginning of this video. 1968 marks the first year that the Jaguar XJ sedan is produced, and the XJ series would go on to become Jaguar's flagship make/model. As you can see, the Big Cat and it'… Read more
