Launch it fast with Quick Cliq

Apathy Softworks sounds like a great name for a pillow maker, but you should never judge a book by its cover or a rock band by its name, and the same goes for the mad coders behind Quick Cliq. Apathy's software is really about speed and productivity, not sloth. They had the fiendishly clever idea of splicing hot keys with mouse gestures to create a free menu-based app launcher and productivity toolkit for Windows. Like Apathy's other not-so-apathetic wares, Quick Cliq is extremely lightweight and completely portable. Quick Cliq's design goal is to enhance your productivity by … Read more

Motorola Cliq XT owners got the bad news today that their smartphones will be left to limp off into the sunset with Android 1.5 Cupcake.

According to the Motorola Support Forums, Moto recently scrapped the Android 2.1 Eclair plans after it determined that the Cliq XT would not deliver an "optimal customer experience."

CES: Motorola reveals Cliq 2 for T-Mobile

It was no surprise to see it, but Motorola officially showed off the new Cliq 2 today at its CES press conference. Actually the third device in the Cliq series after the original Cliq and the Cliq XT, the Cliq 2 offers a slider design with a physical keyboard and it supports T-Mobile's 4G HSPA+ network.

Running Android 2.2 (Froyo) and the latest version of MotoBlur, the Cliq 2 brings a midrange feature set that includes all the Android basics plus a few multimedia options. Inside you'll find a 5-megapixel camera with digital zoom and a dual … Read more

T-Mobile primed to announce Motorola Cliq 2

Next week at CES T-Mobile and Motorola may unveil the successor to their 2009 handset, the Cliq.

A handful of images of the Cliq 2 made their way onto Cell Phone Signal's site yesterday. The photos show a device that looks nearly identical to its predecessor outside of a redesigned keyboard and a shinier bezel around the screen.

As you can see from the pictures, the phone will run Motorola's custom MotoBlur user interface, although the version of Android isn't certain. I would certainly hope for at least 2.2 Froyo, but wouldn't be surprised if … Read more

Android 2.1 finally comes to Moto T-Mobile Cliq

After an agonizingly long four-month delay, T-Mobile Cliq owners at long last are able to grab Android 2.1 Eclair for their year-old phones.

Motorola and T-Mobile yesterday started actively seeking up to 2,000 users to test out the first, and likely last, update for the smartphone. Today, the handset maker followed up by launching a support page to help guide customers through the process.

Many Android users have taken for granted some of the things that Cliq owners will see. For example, they're just now getting speech-to-text, turn-by-turn navigation, voice search, resizable widgets, seven home screens, and … Read more

T-Mobile rolls out minor update to Cliq XT

T-Mobile and Motorola are pushing out an update to the Motorola Cliq XT this week that is designed to improve the overall performance of the device.

While it's not the Android 2.1 update users have been pining for, it's recommended nonetheless. The 1.32.20 release is said to significantly improve common requests such as answering calls, opening apps, and downloading attachments from e-mails.

Other features include enhanced Bluetooth connectivity, updates to the Swype keyboard, and a fix for errors received in certain messaging scenarios.

The update to Android 2.1 is still scheduled for late Q3/… Read more

Motorola tweaks Android timeline, details Froyo support

Last weekend Motorola refreshed its support forum for Android software upgrades. This latest round of news can be broken down into three categories: good, bad, and downright disappointing.

Let's start with the good news, shall we? As many of you are already aware, the Droid currently is receiving its 2.2 "Froyo" update. Meanwhile, the Droid X is expected to see Froyo in the "late summer," which echoes Verizon's original promise. Other handsets from around the world are slated to have Android 2.2 arrive in the fourth quarter, including the Milestone and the … Read more

Unofficial Android 2.1 for Motorola Cliq sneaks out

The last we heard, Motorola was still testing its Android 2.1 operating system upgrade for the T-Mobile Cliq. Originally scheduled to be released last quarter, Motorola pushed the update back to a rumored August debut. So with July passing quickly, it makes sense then that a leaked version of the ROM has made its way online.

Engadget Mobile loaded the ROM onto itsown Cliq to give it a run through. According to the blog, the phone runs a bit snappier than it did before the update, even with its 528MHz processor. Apps such as Google Maps and the Web … Read more

Motorola delays Android 2.1 for Cliq and Cliq XT

Motorola expected to have Android 2.1 on Cliq and Cliq XT handsets by today, but it's unfortunately not going to happen.

A posting on Motorola's forum says that the company is working to deliver the "best possible user experience" as soon as it can and that sadly, it will miss its expected Q2 deadline. The handset maker has updated the status of the two phones to "testing in progress." I'm not exactly sure what that means, but I bet it's better than the "upgrade under evaluation" status that is … Read more
