Samsung Continuum gains new features with update

Verizon Wireless today rolled out an update to its Samsung Continuum Android smartphone. It's not an OS upgrade, but you do get an impressive array of feature improvements and interface tweaks. We'll let Verizon's official list (PDF) speak for itself, so check it out below. As with other over-the-air updates, it will go out to users in stages. But if you'd rather not wait, you can initiate (PDF) the update yourself from your handset's Settings menu.

Samsung Continuum debuts with ticker display

NEW YORK--Though not much of a surprise, Samsung and Verizon officially unveiled the Samsung Continuum at a press event in Manhattan today.

The latest in Samsung's Galaxy S series of Android phones, the Continuum is special in that it has two separate displays: a larger 3.4-inch Super AMOLED touch screen on top and a smaller 1.8-inch ticker display on the bottom. The ticker display is customizable and streams real-time information from your social networks and your news, sports, entertainment, and weather feeds.

Continuum hopes to shine in Solar Challenge

While most of the car tech attention in the Northern hemisphere is focused on the forthcoming DARPA Urban Challenge, a very different--but equally compelling--challenge is about to start in Australia. Next week, 41 teams from around the world will line up to compete in the 2007 Panasonic Solar Challenge, an 1,800-mile race from Darwin to Adelaide.
