Pod Cribs: A perfect combo of danger, ugliness

Hoo boy! This design for "Pod Cribs," spotted on Yanko Design, is as bad as it gets. Not only does it look like something out of some sort of tube-baby-growing dystopia, but it's almost designed to make sure babies fall out of it.

I mean, really. You design a crib that's open on one side? Do you know how babies work? And how often do people need an interconnected crib system that can hold eight babies outside of a maternity ward? Also, they are stupid looking. Back to the drawing board with you, Pod Cribs.

MP3 players for the crib--the real one

So much for playing Mozart to your unborn child. Instead, some companies are trying to introduce babies to music with MP3 players designed for the crib. The trend has resulted in partnerships such as one between Creative Technology, maker of the "Zen," and Playskool, maker of "Mr. Potato Head" (and countless other toys). 'Intellicot' tries to automate parenting

We've long cautioned against overuse of technology to replace basic parenting responsibilities, but our concerns usually focused on such items as baby cams and RFID backpacks. The "Intellicot," however, takes the proverbial cake.

Cencio, the manufacturer, says the Intellicot is a high-tech alternative to a "wooden cage with a mattress" and helps develop regular sleeping patterns while controlling temperatures.
