Tumblr CEO says average cost of ad campaign tops six figures

NEW YORK -- Companies are spending, on average, "north of six figures" on advertising campaigns on Tumblr, the CEO of the blogging platform said Wednesday.

David Karp, speaking at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference in New York, noted that advertising remains Tumblr's biggest challenge, but it's seeing good traction with its efforts.

"Budgets are starting to ratchet up," Karp said. He noted that "some of the best advertisers in the world" are turning to Tumblr.

HP creating glasses-free 3D tech for smartphones, tablets

Hewlett-Packard has been hard at work creating glasses-free 3D technology for mobile devices. That's right, no silly glasses.

Publishing their findings in the science journal Nature today, HP researchers say that this type of technology could transform data visualization, medical training, and entertainment.

The effect is "much like you'd see in the movie `Star Wars' with the hologram of Princess Leia," lead author of the paper David Fattal told the Associated Press today.

Intel decision on CEO delayed, says analyst

Intel's search for a new CEO has been delayed, as the world's largest chipmaker struggles to narrow down the candidates, according to a research note today from Piper Jaffray.

"We believe Intel has narrowed down CEO candidates to two internal and one external, but the final decision appears to be slipping," according to a note today from Piper Jaffray analyst Gus Richard.

Richard believes the delay in selecting a candidate is hurting Intel because it needs to make major decisions about future businesses, such as contract manufacturing.
