World's first open-source car hits Geneva Motor Show

Open source started as a software-development phenomenon, but it has grown far beyond those roots. As a case in point, EDAG presented an open-source car at the recent Geneva Motor Show, as AutoBlog reports.

One of our favorite aspects of the Geneva auto show are the concepts shown by design houses and engineering firms. Never intended to reach production, these concepts show what the companies can do. EDAG is one such company, and it has just announced its concept for the upcoming Geneva auto show, the Light Car - Open Source. EDAG LUV, powered by Intel and Brabus

Most people intimately familiar with Intel never heard of Brabus, and, likewise, people that know a lot about Brabus often don't know much about Intel chip architecture. But both logos appear on design house EDAG's new LUV concept, shown at the 2007 Geneva auto show. LUV stands for luxury utility vehicle, although the concept is built on a Honda Ridgeline. A wood hood and other wood exterior accents are designed to appeal to the yachting type, a niche potentially underserved by the automotive market.
