Hennessey today unveiled the first Venom GT supercar.

"This is the fulfillment of a dream that I have had since I was a kid," said company founder, John Hennessey. "But it is also just the beginning as we begin to demonstrate the performance capabilities of the Venom GT in the near future."

The Venom GT is based off of the Lotus Elise, but aside from reusing the windshield, doors, roof, floor, dash and various trim components, the Venom GT's design and construction has been engineered from the ground up.

The Hennessey Venom GT is here

The Venom GT combines a high-tech, lightweight British chassis with a powerful American V8. This is the latest release from Hennessey, pairs the Lotus Elise with a ZR1-sourced 6.2-liter LS9 V8. That combination is enough deliver a reported 2.4-second 0 to 62 mph and a 262 mph top speed.

The Venom GT comes in 725, 1,000 and 1,200 hp varieties. It weighs less than 2,400 lbs (1,071 kilos) thanks to carbon fiber bodywork and carbon fiber wheels. Stopping power is delivered via Brembo brakes with six-piston calipers up front and four-piston calipers in rear … Read more
