Orders for 2011 Ford Shelby GT500 exceed expectations

Of the 5,500 units of the 2011 Ford Shelby GT500 slated for production, more than half are already spoken for.

Ford today announced that the automaker has received 3,300 initial dealer and retail orders received to date.

"We are pleased with the pace of retail orders for the 2011 Shelby GT500," said Fritz Wilke, Mustang brand manager. "The car continues to be popular with sports car enthusiasts and collectors who are blown away by the increase in horsepower and performance. Chevrolet has partnered with Goodyear to provide maximum energy efficiency on the road, company representatives say. The extended-range electric vehicle has been designed to make every amp count, this also means lowering rolling resistance by using the best tire possible.

The partnership with Goodyear was announced at the Chicago Auto Show, where Chevy fans got a peek at the electric car.

Gear Factor picked up on this patent-pending dirigible called the Air Genie video airship.
