Apple's iOS 7 launched with a revamped design and new features galore. Not all features were welcomed, with some users pleading for the ability to revert back to iOS 6 or turn off some of the more "annoying" features. One such feature was the motion found throughout iOS 7, including the motion found on wallpaper images across all home screens.
When iOS 7 launched with its redesigned interface, the buttons were replaced with simple text labels. The change seemed like an decent idea to match the buttons with the toned-down approach of the user-interface as a whole in iOS 7. But for some, having to guess what's a button and what's simply a text label was a pain.
With the release of iOS 7.1, Apple has added the option to bring back the familiar button shapes across the operating system in both native and third-party apps.
The switch to enable button shapes can be found in Settings &… Read more
On Monday, Apple finally released iOS 7.1. The update brings with it CarPlay support, bug fixes, improvements, and various new features. One such feature is specific to the camera on the iPhone 5S and HDR mode in the Camera app.
When Apple first released HDR mode for iOS devices, the option only existed for it to be turned on or off. The all-or-nothing approach wasn't a horrible idea, but HDR photos aren't always necessary.
With iOS 7.1 on the iPhone 5S, Apple has set HDR mode to automatic by default.

One nice perk of using OS X and iOS is that Apple supplies support for higher-end cameras' raw photo formats, which offer photographers higher image quality but require programmers to decode each camera's proprietary format. So why did Photosmith, an independent iPad companion app to augment Adobe Systems' Lightroom, shift from reliance on iOS' raw support to its own code package?
In short, because Apple's interface and camera support aren't up to scratch, according to Mike Wren, Photosmith's user advocate and and evangelist.

In my youth, I wanted nothing more than to make movies. But the tools just weren't available -- not on my budget, anyway. And even if I'd had a movie camera, special effects were out of the question. UFO invasions, dinosaur attacks, bomb explosions -- these were the purview of Industrial Light & Magic, not little Ricky Broida.
Oh, to be a kid again. Armed with nothing more than a smartphone and the right apps, you can shoot in razor-sharp HD and add all kinds of startlingly good special effects.
You handle the storyboarding and final edits; I'… Read more
One of the hardest parts of starting to work out is staying motivated to actually go do it. Friends and family members can be terrific motivators, especially if you team up with someone to go work out with you.
But not everyone is going to have the option of a regular workout buddy. So instead of sitting at home unmotivated, use your iPhone, the automation service If This Then That (IFTTT), and a friend to hold you accountable.
First you'll need to install IFTTT's iPhone app. (IFTTT can be used with Android, but it's easier with iOS.) … Read more
The next iteration of Apple's mobile operating system is expected to come out sooner rather than later, and there was some talk that Apple would align its release with the its concert at the South By Southwest festival.
The company is holding its iTunes Festival -- featuring the likes of Coldplay, Imagine Dragons and Pitbull -- starting March 11 in Austin, Texas. Apple will stream the performances to iOS devices via an app, but Daring Fireball's Jon Gruber wrote earlier this week that someone had told him … Read more
