With the PS4 and Xbox One launching over the next couple of weeks, I've been asking my fellow editors whether they're getting one, and if so, which one? Many currently have a PS3 or Xbox 360 -- or both -- so they're in the game, so to speak, and would be candidates for a new system. However, the answer I'm getting more often than not is "neither." Most seem to have have adopted a fairly cynical attitude toward next-gen consoles and as such, are taking a wait-and-see approach and won't be hopping on … Read more
If there is a more pleasantly excitable sports announcer than Gus Johnson, then he hasn't excited me.
Yet one of his signature phrases has gotten a 15-year-old Ohio student into trouble.
The phrase is: "He's got that getting-away-from-the-cops speed." The student has not been able to get away from his teachers for saying it.… Read more
Madden NFL 25 had a strong first week on store shelves, but things could have been better.
Electronic Arts on Thursday announced that it sold more than 1 million units of its flagship sports franchise during its first week on store shelves. The company's internal estimates contend it was the bestselling video game in North America in August, beating out titles from a wide array of other developers.
Despite that good news, the 1 million unit sales were down from the 1.65 million Madden NFL units that were sold during the game's first week of availability last … Read more
Madden NFL 25 made its iOS debut yesterday, with a price tag that probably caused some initial elation among fans of the series: it's free. The last Madden title cost $6.99 for the iPhone version and $9.99 for iPad, and previous games in the series were similarly priced.
Turns out Madden NFL 25 isn't free, but freemium: unless you're willing to pony up for in-game cash (by way of in-app purchases, or IAP), you'll have a limited playbook for solo games and almost no chance of winning multiplayer matches against better-equipped players.… Read more
Do you know who will win the Super Bowl in New Orleans this weekend? If you're a San Francisco 49ers or Baltimore Ravens fan, I can venture a guess as to who you might choose. But let's put aside your bias for a moment.
Using the video game Madden NFL '13, EA ran a mock game featuring the 49ers and Ravens to determine who would take home the Vince Lombardi trophy. If you think the prediction is hogwash, you're probably correct on some levels (it is just a video game, after all), but it's worth noting that the annual simulation resulted in correct predictions for seven out of the last nine Super Bowl showdowns. Such accuracy must mean something, right? EA summarizes the first few quarters: … Read more
Electronic Arts has once again announced that a wide array of its games will soon no longer be playable online.
The company has updated its Online Service Updates page to announce that Madden NFL 11 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii will lose its online playability on January 11. FIFA Soccer 11, NBA Live 10, and NHL 11 are among the other titles that will no longer be playable.
EA Sports' Madden NFL 13 has gotten off to a hot start. Electronic Arts announced today that the newest gridiron football simulator, which launched Tuesday, sold 900,000 copies during its first 24 hours for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
This marks a 7 percent rise over last year's iteration, and represents the most successful Madden launch this console generation.
