Jobs' high school girlfriend writing book about relationship

Steve Jobs' high school girlfriend and the mother of his daughter Lisa plans to write a book telling the story of her rocky relationship with the late Apple co-founder.

Chrisann Brennan is writing an untitled memoir for St. Martin's Press, part of Macmillan, The New York Times reported today. Brennan, now a painter living in the San Francisco Bay Area, met Jobs while the two were students at Homestead High School in Cupertino, Calif.

Paul Allen says new book isn't revenge on Gates

The controversy over Paul Allen's new book, which hits stores next week, has taken a different turn, with Allen playing defense against critics over the memoir's sometimes negative portrayal of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates.

In an interview with "60 Minutes," which airs this Sunday, Allen rebuffs criticisms from last month, saying the book is not an act of revenge against Gates, and is instead meant to serve as a record of what happened.

"It's not about [revenge]," Allen told Lesley Stahl in the interview. "I just felt like it's an important … Read more

The developers behind MacJournal admit that you can use a traditional word processor or text editor for journaling--but they say that's like Lance Armstrong using a bike from Wal-Mart to race in the Tour de France. Aside from the fact that Armstrong would probably still kick butt on a Wal-Mart bike, they've got a point: MacJournal is one of the best journaling programs available for the Mac, with a huge range of features that are useful whether you're keeping a journal for yourself, taking notes for classes or meetings, organizing random snippets of info, or prepping blog … Read more

Review: Samsung Memoir is a top-notch camera phone

We're usually jealous of our friends across the pond for getting high-megapixel camera phones; the highest we've had so far has been the 5-megapixel Motorola Zine ZN5 from T-Mobile. But that has all changed with the Samsung Memoir, also available from T-Mobile, which has a whopping 8-megapixel camera with plenty of features you wouldn't even find in most standalone point-and-shoot cameras. They include antishake, smile and blink detection, 12 preset settings for certain lighting conditions like portrait and landscape photography, and geotagging. Perhaps the most intriguing feature is that you can upload directly to online sharing sites … Read more

T-Mobile Samsung Memoir gets official release date, pricing

Back in early February, Samsung revealed that it would bring its 8-megapixel camera phone, the Samsung Memoir, to T-Mobile by the end of the month, and the company has kept its promise.

The night before the official start of GSMA Mobile World Congress 2009 here in Barcelona, Samsung and T-Mobile held a joint press conference where they announced that the Samsung Memoir would be available starting February 25 for $249.99 with a two-year contract and after a $50 mail-in rebate.

The event was marked by a special guest appearance by supermodel Helena Christensen, who was on hand to endorse the Memoir. Now, you might be wondering what the connection is between a model and a camera phone, but Christensen also happens to be a photographer (who knew?) and was given the Memoir for a few days to use as her phone and camera throughout her travels in New York and Barcelona. Images that she took with the Memoir were then put on display at the event.

"As a photographer it was great for me to be the first to try the Memoir and to really experience everything it is capable of doing," said Christensen. "It's very important that my mobile phone also double up as a great camera, that way I always have my camera on hand to capture images at any moment. That's what a big part of photography is about." … Read more

T-Mobile gets 8-megapixel Samsung Memoir

Rumblings about the Samsung Memoir have been sweeping through the blogosphere since the year began, but it was only late Wednesday when we finally heard the official word from Samsung. As expected, the Memoir, aka the SGH-T929, is an 8-megapixel camera phone that is winding up at none other than T-Mobile. We don't know the price or when it will be in stores, but Samsung promises that it will go on sale by the end of the month.

Similar to its cousin, the 8-megapixel Samsung Innov8, the Memoir walks a thin line between phone and camera. We hope that … Read more

Microformats (I): Say it in six words

Legend has it that Hemingway was once challenged to write a story in only six words. His response? "For sale: baby shoes, never worn." Last year, SMITH Magazine re-ignited the micro-format by asking its readers for their own six-word memoirs. Thousands submitted short life stories, ranging from the bittersweet ("Three marriages. Two divorces. BA .333"), poignant ("Look Mom: I've finally written something"), and sad ("I still make coffee for two") to the inspirational ("Business school? Bah! Pop music? Hurrah") and aspirational ("Next Life Van Morrison Backup singer"). … Read more
