Project Zero tiltrotor shows off battery-powered flight

LE BOURGET, France -- Sure, there are electric vehicles on the road now. But aviation company AgustaWestland thinks they may have a place in the air, too.

At the Paris Air Show here, the Finmeccanica subsidiary showed off an exotic tiltrotor aircraft called Project Zero that's powered by lithium batteries. It flies, but project manager Jianye Zhang wouldn't say how far or how fast.

The single-passenger aircraft looks like a flying wing, but it's got two propellers built into the surface of the wing. For takeoff, the propellers push air downward to thrust the aircraft up like … Read more

How a souped-up Huawei Vision gives insight to the blind

When members of the blind community petition the National Federation of the Blind about cell phones, they repeatedly ask for two things: a mobile phone that's easy to use, and audiobooks.

So says Odin Mobile, a new mobile network catering to the visually impaired. The Huawei Vision, Odin Mobile's star of the show at launch, promises to deliver both of those most-wanted attributes as soon as July -- and then some.

Less important than the coincidentally named and preexisting Huawei Vision debut device is the modified operating system that's loaded onto the Android phone. Called Project Ray, … Read more

Sculpture carrying human DNA to be sent into the depths

Danish artist Kristian von Hornsleth is going to send human blood and hair sealed in a spooky-looking capsule to the bottom of the Marianas Trench.

Something about this strikes us as a phenomenally bad idea. It could be that the artist's name, "Hornsleth," sounds a little too close to "Innsmouth." It could be the strange, spiky, angled sculpture loaded up with human body parts. It could be that those body parts are headed for the deepest part of the ocean.

Either way, it's hard to know if any of those things have occurred to the artist, who has spent years building the Deep Storage Project. He says that his plan is that the 8-meter-cubed sculpture will give eternal life to the more than 5,000 volunteers who surrendered a drop of their blood and a hair from their head. … Read more

Zoho Projects 1.0.3 Review

Those who are using Zoho, an online suite of office tools and applications, may be looking for a mobile app that lets them check their projects on the go. Zoho Projects is an application that is designed to enable the user to view projects online. While this program works quite well, its limited usefulness almost makes the app pointless.

While the installation goes smoothly, this application doesn't seem to offer many useful features. Users cannot change a meeting or edit a document. In fact, they can't change anything. Zoho Projects simply lets the user view a feed of … Read more
