The average Facebook user spends 6 hours a day checking his page and messages: true or false? False, but not by much, at least in our experience. There are all kinds of ways to make the most of the time you spend on Facebook, and one of the most useful kinds is free widget-like apps that keep you signed in on Facebook and check your messages and updates. Like Desktop Facebook, for instance. This simple freeware app stays signed in to Facebook and keeps track of your Messages, Pokes, Friend Requests, and Wall Count. Clicking on any notification opens the … Read more
Brazil made good on its promise today and detained the country's head of operations for Google, according to the Associated Press.
The debacle began last week when Google refused to remove denigrating video clips of a politician from YouTube as ordered by a Brazilian judge. Laws in the country limit public criticism of political candidates.
Since Google failed to remove the clips, Judge Flavio Peren initiated a statewide, 24-hour suspension of Google and YouTube, while also ordering the arrest of Google executive Fabio Jose Silva Coelho.
According to the Associated Press, Brazil's federal police said that Coelho should … Read more

There is now ample reason to believe that the mere existence of Facebook may cause human beings to do things that they know they shouldn't. Such as poke people and send them dead fish, or whatever virtual beings it is that people send to each other.
Somehow, the temptation seems too great, the user interface too attractive, and the immediacy of the communication just too powerful for anyone to resist.
As evidence, might I bring you the alleged behavior of Harry William Bruder from Florida? According to a report from the Pasco Sheriff's Office, Bruder, an employee of … Read more
When you become president of your country, you walk into crises from the very first day.
Threats to your country's security may abound. Some of your cabinet ministers may be enjoying risky extramarital relations. But perhaps no newly elected president has ever had to confront as difficult a situation as Ivo Josipovic, Croatia's new head of state.
For, according to Reuters, he is tearing his rather impressive hair out at the thought of having too many Facebook friends.
"I have 5,000 friends, which is the maximum allowed on Facebook. I also have another 7,000 waiting … Read more

Facebook has quietly changed the way its friend request e-mails look.
Instead of the old, simple text e-mails sent to Facebook users whenever someone wanted to add them as a friend, the new friend request e-mails feature the familiar blue header with the Facebook logo at the top of the message. Below that, the same text, "(Facebook user's name) added you as a friend on Facebook. We need to confirm that you know (the user) in order for you to be friends on Facebook," is featured.
To the right of that message is a small yellow box … Read more
