Busta Rhymes Q&A: 'Winning' with Google Music

LOS ANGELES--Chatting with rapper Busta Rhymes about smartphones, his sons, and the business of online music distribution isn't how I had intended to spend part of my afternoon.

Yet the artist made a surprise appearance at the Google Music launch in LA this afternoon and graciously granted CNET an interview. Rhymes joins other artists, like Coldplay and The Rolling Stones, whose work will be made exclusively available to Google Music users as part of a partnership between Google and publishers like Sony, Universal, and EMI. The effusive Busta sat down with me to share his views on the intersection … Read more

Pint-sized HTC Explorer gets added to growing list of unannounced Android phones

HTC, fresh from announcing the Rhyme and Sense 3.5 user interface, should have plenty of reasons to get back on stage come its October 6 press event.

With expected devices in the Vigor (Droid Incredible HD), Amaze 4G, Holiday, and Runnymede (Bass), there is plenty to look forward to from the manufacturer. So why not toss in at least one more phone for good measure? Say hello to the HTC Explorer.

Along with the standard connectivity options, the diminutive device is said to feature a 600MHz processor, a 3.2-inch display, 384MB RAM, and a 5-megapixel camera. Looking very … Read more

HTC: Rhyme a better upgrade phone than iPhone

If you're looking to upgrade to a smartphone from a basic handset, HTC executive Jason Mackenzie says he believes the Rhyme offers a better option than Apple's iPhone.

"For a feature phone customer, we think this is a better product than the iPhone," Mackenzie said in an interview with CNET. HTC's global marketing chief was in New York on Tuesday for the unveiling of the Rhyme for Verizon Wireless, a "plum" smartphone with feminine sensibilities--not that HTC or Verizon would easily cop to that fact.

Mackenzie's claim is a bold one, but … Read more

HTC Rhyme for Verizon takes stage, flaunting accessories

NEW YORK--HTC unveiled its latest smartphone for Verizon today, the HTC Rhyme, an Android Gingerbread device focused on style and user experience.

Known formerly by its code-name HTC Bliss, the Rhyme isn't so much about high-end specs; rather, HTC decided to design the phone on three principles: style, essential, and intuitive. HTC and Verizon were careful not to say that the purple handset was female-focused and said that it was for anyone seeking a fashion-forward device with a solid set of features and a cool bundle of accessories.

HTC created a number of accessories specifically for the Rhyme, including … Read more

The 404 Podcast 513: Where we did not put that sticker there

If you've ever petitioned Facebook to add a "Dislike" button to the site, you might get a kick out of a new antisocial networking site that lets your friends anonymously rag on you from the privacy of their homes. Failin.gs is currently in beta, but soon you'll be able to hit your friends up for anonymous comments about your mundane status updates. No, it doesn't integrate with Facebook itself (thankfully), but hopefully it'll force you to think twice about telling everyone what you had for dinner last night.

After 30 years of the same boring design, Heinz finally wised up and redesigned its ketchup packets. Fans of fast food will be treated to a new packet that opens up on BOTH ends: the top features the same tear-off perforation, but the new bottom opens to reveal a section for dunking your fries, which happens to be one of the most popular applications for the condiment! Check out this video on CBSNews.com for more details and look for the new packets coming to fast food joints near you!

Last week's viral "Post your doppelganger to Facebook" meme might violate Facebook's terms of service, but we're featuring our own celebrity photos on today's episode anyway...with a twist. Check out our cartoon doppelgangers above and let us know what you think: does Wilson really look like the Asian kid from "Up?" Does Jeff turn into a green-faced ogre at night? And should I seriously consider growing a goatee? Sound off by leaving us a voice mail at 1-866-404-CNET or send an e-mail to the404(at)cnet{dot}com.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Rhyming dictionary

Rhymesaurus provides users with a fast, effective way to find a word's rhyme. In addition, the program offers some bonus features that make this stand out from its competition.

The program's interface is incredibly simple, with only one place to enter data. Beyond that, the program is broken into tabs for various definitions, which keeps things simple. Users should not need the Help file, though one is available. The program begins with users entering their word in a search engine. From there, they may choose one of the seven tabs for answers. Tabs include Dictionary, Thesaurus, Rhyme, Sounds … Read more

Princess Zelda spits hot fire in debut album, 'Ocarina of Rhyme'

If you enjoyed Eric Franklin's post on 8-bit NES-style hip-hop, you'll definitely enjoy Team Teamwork's "The Ocarina of Rhyme." It's a mix tape of mashups that combines hip-hop tracks with the score to the Zelda game Ocarina of Time.

Team Teamwork produced the mix, which features unique tracks by Spank Rock, Common, Aesop Rock, Clipse, and my personal pick: MF Doom. Most of the songs fit well with the background score; for example, in "Fumbling Over Words," artist Edan Portnoy's intensity melds seamlessly into the rumblings of the "Battle" … Read more
