Samsonite luggage packs a micro scooter

The McLaren Sport Samsonite luggage we featured last year came with a suspension system for its wheels. We thought that was pretty cool, but it's got nothing on the Micro Samsonite sold by the U.K.-based Micro Scooter Store.

This cabin-sized luggage has a flipout board that adds a third wheel to the two standard rollers under the hard-case bag, transforming it into a micro scooter that you can ride around the airport.

Samsonite charging ahead with solar luggage

Luggage-maker Samsonite is releasing a new line of bags this summer seemingly aimed at on-the-go green techies.

The bags will incorporate solar panels from Ascent Solar, the same company that provides flexible thin-film photovoltaic modules for Bye Aerspaces' solar-powered surveillance drone, the Silent Sentinel.

The light-weight CIGS (copper indium gallium diselenide) modules to be used in the Samsonite products will produce enough electricity to recharge small mobile devices like cell phones, GPS navigators, and media players, according to Ascent Solar.

When Samsonite released design guidelines for its second annual Baby Travel Design Competition earlier this year, it suggested the following categories: transport, sleeping, safety, feeding, playing, bathing, and changing.

Last year's winners ranged from carriers and strollers to a sleeping bag and floating humidifier. Samsonite recently announced its eight winners out of the almost 1,700 entries submitted from 78 countries in 2009, including a bassinette, all-in-one bag, and baby air seat.
