Moebius House a super-sized strip of math wonder

The Moebius House doesn't look or sound real. It's designed to be built on a Korean island in a forest growing on volcanic rock. It's inspired by the unending brain teaser known as a Mobius strip.

Design firm Planning Korea has tackled some creative projects in the past, including designs for a mega-bridge over the Han River and a cocoon-shaped house that looks like it could hide a giant insect inside. It's no wonder those same architects saw a Mobius strip as a good basis for a house.… Read more

Mobius bacon strip cooked up through magic of 3D printing

We may have to wait awhile for true 3D-printed meat, but in the meantime, we can take solace in a 3D-printed Mobius bacon strip. This bacon strip simultaneously evokes deep feelings of bacon-past and challenges our perception of what bacon is.

If M.C. Escher were to design breakfast products, this is the bacon he would come up with. It's a never-ending circle of pork that owes its existence to advances in 3D printing.… Read more

Cruciform surge protector gets wires crossed

The multitasking cross-shaped Power/Strip promises "comprehensive protection from evil, power surges, and AC contamination." And to think my surge protector only takes care of the evil part...

Alexander Pincus of Means of Production designed the cruciform surge protector, which has 12 outlets and can accommodate oversize adapters. Note to vampirephobes: the New York-based design studio has just completed prototyping for the device and hopes to get it into production by the end of the month and make it available by the holidays.

As for any other obvious jokes this product might spark, pray say what you will. … Read more

Wet Circuits: Water- and shockproof power strip

I'm pretty sure we all have a power strip hanging around at home or in the office, but is yours water- and electric-shockproof? My heart almost stopped watching the above demonstration of the power strip dunked in water. While airtight shutters can help to achieve this amazing feat, I was completely dumbfounded when the presenter probed the socket with a metal pincer since I expected to see sparks and smoke, not to mention a slightly fried host with an explosive hair perm to match Albert Einstein's.

Besides water resistance and touch protection, the $35 Wet Circuits power stripRead more

Everyone cram into the booth!

IncrediBooth lets you relive those moments at the amusement park or carnival, when you and your friends would cram yourselves into a little photo booth to create a strip of funny shots to save your fun memories. This app will work on the iPhone 4 only, so users of older iPhones should NOT download this app. The app uses the iPhone 4's front-facing camera to take three pictures in a row, letting you get creative with how you pose between shots. The end result is a strip of retro-looking photos, much like what you would pull from those aforementioned … Read more

Online comic strip hopes to improve girls' health

In a preliminary study a few years back, researchers found that an educational, online comic strip geared toward 8- to 10-year-old black girls helped them eat better and exercise more. But there were only 80 girls, and they all self-reported, and it's unclear whether the fact that they were paid skewed the results.

Now, the program's creators are set to really put the comic strips to the test when they launch a larger study, with 400 volunteers and their parents, to test the Web-based program. Called the "Food, Fun, and Fitness Internet Program for Girls," the … Read more

Sexy interactive poker

Choose your hottie opponent and play a hand of Virtual Strip Poker with her. As you play, your sexy opponent teases you while wearing slinky lingerie. You're allowed to cheat and to try to get her drunk, but she'll try to make you lose by getting you "virtually drunk," too.

The free version of Virtual Strip Poker offers only one opponent, so we chose her. "Jill" was listed as "hard to beat," and that she was. We kept getting bad hands, and Jill lost not a stitch of clothing. The instructions explain … Read more
