Samsung's ever expanding universe of tablets welcomed a new 8-inch member to its Galaxy Tab 3 series. The Galaxy Tab 3 8.0, which fits comfortably between the 7-inch and 10.1-inch models in the series, ships with Android 4.2, sports a 1,280x800-pixel resolution TFT display, and houses a 1.5GHz dual-core processor with 1.5GB of RAM.

The 8-inch tablet will come with 16GB or 32GB of internal storage and is designed to fit comfortably in one hand. It also features a 5-megapixel rear camera, 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, and microSD card expansion slot.

Last week Google announced a revamped Gmail experience across both its Web and mobile services. The Web version rolled out later on that same day. We already covered how to activate the new tabs feature, and how to use it once you do, but Android version 4.5 was said to begin rolling out in the coming weeks.

Samsung is putting an Intel chip in an Android Galaxy Tab. That's unusual.

As CNET reported back on May 20, Samsung is slated to disclose -- either privately or publicly -- the next Intel-based Galaxy tablet at Computex, which starts June 4. It will run Android 4.2.2 and sport a 1,280 x 800 display.

What's odd is that Samsung is a chipmaking giant in its own right and considered an Intel rival in Android mobile devices. For example, its Exynos series of chips power the Galaxy smartphones and Galaxy tablets.

Google on Wednesday made a big announcement regarding Gmail's overall look and feel. We suggest taking a look at Carolina Road's Jarte, a free, tabbed-based, Word-compatible word processor built upon WordPad. It's fast and reliable, like WordPad, but it adds some features, such as single-click bookmarking, mouse scroll wheel cut-and-paste capability, and dictionary and thesaurus reference tools.
