The kitchen can be a mysterious place filled with wondrous things. And that's before any food enters the room. Imagine a time traveler, stumped by the box that is the microwave. Depending on the era, they could probably riddle out the use of the hearth and the icebox, or rather the oven and the refrigerator, but other things might not be so obvious to our friend out of time.
I've read a number of headlines talking about Apple's new policy of giving OS X away for "free" and how that might harm Microsoft's future. A reality check is in order.
OS X, also called Mac OS, isn't free. Even if you want to buy that argument, it's unlikely to be a major factor in shifting people from Windows to Mac. The price of an operating system is a sideshow compared with the cost of hardware, and more importantly, when you consider the shift from PCs to tablets.
How 'free' isn't really … Read more

I've had a love affair with high-tech watches for as long as I can remember. I still recall with fondness my beloved Casio Marlin W-300, which I cherished as a tot. I've also proudly worn some truly laughable devices out in public, much to my friends' annoyance and eventual entertainment. Remember the Pimp series from Tokyo Flash? Orchestrating the construction of a whole meal is an endeavor that requires timing and patience. After the perfect combination of that classic trilogy of protein, vegetable and starch has been decided upon, the next task is to prepare it. With finding balance such an important aspect of meal-making before and during the event, a kitchen gadget that can help tie everything together in the race to the finish line, is a welcome addition to the kitchen. Especially if it knows how to subtract.
If you have a baby, you have your hands full. Mixing up formula takes time and care is required to get it down to the right temperature. For a $149 pledge on Indiegogo, you can hand that duty off to a kitchen gadget.
The Piena Tender Touch baby formula maker is like a coffee maker for infants. Turn the machine on and it boils the water, then cools it to near body temperature.… Read more
The fact that coffee can have a bitter taste to some is a reality that requires an obvious solution: take out the bitter. Naturally, there are a lot of solutions that seem to be out there. For one, adding a spoonful of sugar (at least) seems to do the trick for many; sweeteners of all types always seem to be nearby a pot of coffee. Then, of course, there is the solution that goes straight to the source: let the coffee maker take out the bitterness.
Most times when I share a deal, I have no idea how many units the vendor has in stock. This time I do, and while it's a decent quantity, I can guarantee you they won't last long. Here's hoping you're able to grab one before they're gone.
Today only, and while supplies last, DealFisher has the refurbished Roku 2 HD streaming media box for $34.95 shipped. That's the lowest price I've ever seen for any Roku box -- hence my expectation of a quick sell-out.
There's probably not much I can … Read more
I didn't like the Nexus 4 when it came out about a year ago. No LTE? Not for me! But now that you can no longer buy it, I have a new appreciation of what it was. A good little smartphone at a fantastic price. Will the Nexus 5 give us the same and more? I sure hope so.
