Bloom off the Xbox 360 rose?

Posted by Molly Wood
What is with all these game consoles turning out to be letdowns before they're even released? First, there were all the stories about Sony stripping features out of the PS3 in order to keep the cost down. Now there are rumors that the Xbox 360, while retailing for an expected (but steep) $299.99, will hit you with pricier-than-expected games ($60 and up) and will be more difficult to develop games for than the PS3--which means, possibly, fewer available games in the future. Help us, Nintendo Revolution. You're our only hope. (Sigh.)

Why I chose 360

1. M$ has fielded two successful consoles since Sony released the PS2

2. Sony has yet to produce an actual working console.

3. Sony misled consumers about it’s ability to launch it’s product. Lies carry the stench of defeat.

4. While the initial launch titles were good to average, more recent games are very impressive, Fight Night, GRAW, Burnout (Killer Apps).

5. Xbox online infrastructure is superior to what little else is available.

6. 360’s are simply selling faster than they can be made.

7. PS3 will likely suffer from the same supply, technical and development issues that the Xbox 360 has.

8. Xbox 360 will have functionality and features that PS3 won’t be able to duplicate as it can be used as a media extender for the PC’s we all already own. Windows Vista or Mediacenter PC.

9. Blue Ray is yet another attempt by Sony to saddle us with one of it’s Proprietary formats that may not take off. I don’t see people flocking to HD DVD either, the cost far outpace the benefits that the average user will see. At lease M$ didn’t shove it down our throats. Blue Ray capacity is for the foreseeable future completely unnecessary for games.

10. Finally the Xbox 360 Exists. PS3, perhaps you might be able to buy one in a year from now.

Don't write about things you dont understand

This angers me much:

"CNET Networks strives to meet the highest editorial standards for accuracy and completeness in its reviews and reporting."

As stated in their editorial feedback section.

Now, I would much like it if you would abide by that and actually write true information. If not, then you should be fired.

Halo 3 the savior of Xbox

Majora's Mask, although being part of the Zelda series, was not
nearly as influencial as Halo has become. Halo 2 was one of the
primary reasons Xbox has shown profit this past year, and if the
sales and presales of Halo 2 are of any indication of how Halo 3
will do, PS3 with its predicted very high price tag (possibly more
than $500), had better be worried about microsoft. With a pre-
holiday release and time to build a substantial game library
(microsoft has now secured more game developers than ever
before, including Square Enix) it would not surprise me if
consumers would rather pay $60 for what they know is going to
be a hit (Halo3) than the hefty price tag of PS3 with still to be
determined launch titles (not to mention all the accessories and
xtra hard drive).

Are you high?

PS2 games have never cost around $60 or $70 unless they have an online subscription or a peripheral put in. Just got hit yourself because you are dumb.

That was just rude.

It might have been a bad picture. Give her benefit of the doubt here. But cmon fire her cuz she is t3h suck with technology info and analysis. She makes basic assumptions from CRAP sources and hasn't even read up on topics or tried things for herself. I went to E3, and I guess she did not, but I am not a journalist. Still, I could write this stuff much better than her.

....Halo 3...

Halo 3 may be great (Bungie better fix all the problems with the second, have an ending, and de-n00b it, as Halo 2 was n00bified to make 12 yr olds who snuk a copy feel better cuz they suck), but it will not put a HUGE dent in PS3. Majora's Mask came out when PS2 came out and look what happened to that.

Anti-MS?

They are apparently anti-Apple too. All I can say is they are not nearly as knowledgeble as I once thought. Molly proves it.

...actually...

They do not have 8 processors...Cell has 8 SPEs which process tasks, like assisting the GPU in rendering, or sound, or basic math calculations, but it is one processor with 8 SPEs, similar to cores, but one SPE is used for redundancy so it cannot be used by devs.

WTF?

Microsoft is not buying every lisnese. They are just getting large developer support. You are confusing MS with EA. Get your facts straight before you ever post again, n00b.

Perhaps...

... you should check again. MS has never owned CNet.
