Root-kit update: lawsuit and exploit

Posted by Molly Wood
The Sony root-kit debacle goes on. Today comes news of the first Trojan horse that exploits the unpatched DRM technology and the inevitable U.S. lawsuit. Because sometimes you cross so far over the line that the story just never dies.

Bad Sony...

I think sony has gone too far in protecting their digital property. 98% of the music cd buyers just wants to enjoy listening to their music and maybe the remaining 2% may have questionable intents but Sony choose to criminalize everyone and for that I say shame on you. I don't need you altering my computer for your own greed.

One less sony customer...

Sony messed me up!

I just recently bought the new Mary Mary cd. After actually getting it to play I noticed that my computer was doing things like shutting off without a reason, or having delayed reaction to basic function. Long story short I ran a virus report and sure enough rootkit came popping up in the list of viruses. I'm p-od man!!!

guys sony has done this for years

Their Tvs seem to be overpriced and not as good as the LG or any other brands

psps still continue to turn out Brand New models with Bad pixels and they still don't consider it a manufacturing defect unless its more then 5

ps2s the older ones still break down more then any other system (laser usually)

and now the ps3 and limited edition ps2 are not fully compatiable with ps1 and ps2 games and sony won't tell us which ones.

something is wrong with that corporation even with the new CEO

Let's hope their video game dept. isn't corrupt...

I love their games, and I was going to get a PS3, but now, I'm not sure. I hope that the video game department isn't trying to pull any of this crap...

Goodbye, Sony, and good riddance

Is it to much to hope that this could mean the end of the crap that is Sony, at least in the digital music dept.?
Does this really surprise anyone, though? This is the same company that offers poor support, higher prices, and proprietary formats in any area it competes in. I've been avoiding Sony for a long time BEFORE this mess...that 'long time' has now been extended until I die.

Sony is in BIG trouble

Whoever approved this maneuver is toast. You have your class action lawsuits, your US federal and EU investigations and inevitable fines, all on top of a severe beating in the public eye. This will set DRM back in a big way as Sony's competition seeks to distance themselves from this idea. Heck, this may negatively impact the Trusted Computing Initiative.
